A bit of a tangent but I think, if anything, the mysterious "smoky mountain" range that borders the Glowing Sea needs to be explored. You tend to notice a peninsula of land, expanding further south of Boston into the ocean, that cannot be reached but looks like a hot zone. It goes pretty far from there, seems connected to the Glowing Sea.
