I just finished it as well and the story mode was pretty lame to me. After a pretty good story from MK9. This felt UNDERWHELMING. Oh well...

Liara and Grunt would actually make sense if if they did start say 500 years in the forward in the story because of their long life spans BUT Bioware should just start brand new...
Dont Forget Grunt. The Krogan could live a long ass time as well according to the story and lore BUT that being said a fresh start would be best plus the writers wont be constrained to the old story. They can create a totally new story with fresh ideas, mechanics, and gameplay.

Sure you can. Its all up to the writers. They can move forward 500 years or so and talk about how the species got together and figured out how to repair them for example. That's why to me its more interesting to see what new concepts that these writers come up with instead of revisiting the past in a prequel.
Prequels are usually nothing short of cash grabs plus you already know whats going to happen.
Why not move forward and tell a brand new story without being constrained to current lore ? Hearing its not a prequel has definitely piqued my interest and IMHO is the best idea going forward just like others mentioned on here.

While I agree NGS graphics are superior to black. Overall black is so much better. That's not even a question and I have both versions.

Your post is spot on. What happen to where you would play a game and if a specific requirement was met things (costumes, weapons, etc) became unlocked. MK DA comes to mind.
