What really killed it was three things.
1) Activision not being able to properly innovate and market the franchise.
2) Rock Band. They added more instruments, had more songs, and marketed better.
3) DLC. With most of your favorite bands available for download, why do you need to buy another disc-based installment?
Yeah, Johnny and Meryl's romance came from out of freaking nowhere. Surprised it's not higher on the list.
I have to HEAVILY disagree here. I think the complete opposite about music in video games. I think they've become so much more important in the last decade than ever before.
Most great soundtracks turn great games into classics, and they're mostly all instrumental. Do you think Nate's Theme would be better with lyrics? What about the angelic melodies and harmonies of Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood? Or what about "From the Wreckage" from the orig...
The way you proposed Shakespeare makes it sound possible, but I don't think there's really much literature that could translate itself to games. At least not well. Maybe the epics of Homer could be done, but film has tried to tackle those before and not come out so great.
A very interesting and thought-provoking article. I think this can be found in most forms of entertainment. Nothing can ever truly be perfect, and if it isn't, then it will always have some negatives that people have to look past or "struggle" through to enjoy them.
Definitely an interesting-looking title. I've kept my eye on it the past few months. Looks promising.
Very interesting. I don't think I'm a fan of the large Sentinel being playable though. Never really liked them as characters in the comics. Kinda bland characters if you ask me. Unless you're talking about the more advanced, unique ones like Bastion.
Drake's Fortune did. Among Thieves followed the trail of Marco Polo.
Bulletstorm is looking to be a lot of fun. May pick this demo up.
I like your list, but I absolutely disagree with the order. We haven't seen anything from Skyrim, regardless of how awesome it will probably be, to be ranked that high. Zelda wasn't very impressive to be number one. MLB getting in the top five is a bit absurd given the series isn't even the best in sports. And I wouldn't even rank Gears 3 that high. I enjoyed Gears 2, but it was overall a pretty big letdown to me. Probably rank at 10 on my list.
That's jus...
Awesome. I really like when games make DLC and other multiplayer stuff available through something like aggregate kills. Gives you a feeling of accomplishment for playing. Now to have fun hunting and killing in the pale moon light.
PlayStation Home I find to be really bland and boring. It's just a bunch of avatars walking around in a virtual world. Movements and facial expressions can't be tracked by the Eye Cam. Heck, you can't even use voice chat in Home. All you can do is walk around and text chat, which can be quite annoying if you don't have a USB keyboard to plug into your PS3. If anything Home rips off of Second Life.
As for the whole 1984 Big Brother thing, you can say the same t...
If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the EMA this year then her argument is rendered entirely inept. The US government won't be allowed to censor games for violence. I'm sure she's got just as inadequate research and "proof" as the California law supporters, too.
This has just made OnLive a lot more appealing to me. It now may be a serious, legitimate threat to console makers.
I completely agree with everything except number four. That there was a damn travesty. An insult to Star Wars fans everywhere.
This was a great article. Really makes me want to finally go out and pick up Bad Company 2. Played Battlefield 2 and enjoyed it, which was argued to be THE FPS before Modern Warfare hit. I do hope Activision does make changes to CoD to keep it fresh, but knowing the company's track record I doubt it.
That's dedication to your target audience and fanbase. Hopefully more developers will take note of this.
Interesting. When you think about it that all does make sense. Players can focus much better playing games while people try to distract them, have to learn different controls with their hands for several different games while keeping their eyes on the screen, and nowadays have to adjust the contrast in every title.
Gotta love studies that reinforce the positives of playing games.
Good point. I did forget Vanquish. Thanks for reminding me.
I'll believe that the movie won't be a train wreck when he stops making the movie have nothing to do with the games.
