I've been going to E3 every year since 1998, even the two years when it briefly turned into a "business expo." I even went to the abysmal E for All spin offs.
I'm concerned about some things I've heard, and some things I've noticed, but at the same time I don't want to seem disloyal to the expo that I enjoy so much, so I'm not going to comment on the drama. I'm just hoping the new changes are for the better, and that the show will find...
I won't lie to you. There's a lot of drama going behind the scenes at E3. An entire article could be written about what's really happening with the show, it's struggles to stay relevant, and the desperate attempt this year to expand upon the content of the show in order to survive. There's a reason they sold 15,000 tickets to the public and it's not what you think.

The collection is going multi plat. A new game is in the works. Activision figured out there's still money in the franchise. Pre-orders for the trilogy have been good. There's probably a second collection in the works.
Retro gaming is doing fine all on it's own. VR on the other hand is looking very much DOA.

They're not in trouble because their biggest games will continue to literally make billions of dollars. They have however become complacent while they milk the GTA Online cow to death. Their creative output is also very disappointing, and they need to do something to pick up the pace of their releases.
There are problems behind the scenes. The project is so behind schedule that it will slip into next gen consoles and game streaming services. Definitely not platform exclusive and coming to as many platforms as possible, even your tablet and PC.

Bull sh**. This is a pathetic excuse from a company that clearly didn't give a damn about their E3 showing. The company blew it's wad in 2015, playing the biggest cards in their deck (FF7,Crash, etc), and now they have nothing left except the stuff we've seen many times before (God of War.)
I'll give Sony a pass for one reason, I think they know about the drama behind the scenes at E3. Sony was always the biggest player at the show. In many ways, Sony IS E3....
