Yes, but it is external from the already external box. Why not internal in the already external box?

Next tweet from xbox uk
"- Supports HDR Passthrough"
lol

And how should they fix this.

Another complaint, does this thing really have an external power supply?

This move doesn't make sense. Now every PS4 supports (marketing) "HDR", they don't even support it via passthrough?
It doesn't make sense to sell a product now, that should passthrough a HDMI signal that doesn't support HDMI 2.0 specs.
If you pay for PS4 Pro upgrade, because you have a 4k TV, there is a big chance you also have a HDR display.

but well, every 4k HDR TV should have the streaming apps already. Only gaming with HDR co...

Try buying 4 games a month for just <5$ for consoles.
Those games are a bonus. You are paying for the online service, not for those games.

Still missing the 4k player. 4k streaming is something you can forget, because almost every 4k TV has 4k streaming inside. No need for an extra console there.
But yeah, you're right, higher res gaming content is also good. I just don't understand why sony didn't add the 4k player in this box ... just for 20-50 bucks more. That would be better than an extra player under my tv.

Top 50 of japan not worldwide
That is really impressive if you look at the xbox one console-sales in japan

That's not premium, it is just slightly improved. btw, it is not a rx480gpu, it the old gpu doubled
Premium would be:
- UHD-Player (disc based; streaming can do any 4k HDR smart tv)
- Much more ram for better Textures (512 MB is not enough here)
- AC Wifi
...

That would be premium and it could than cost $599 because it would be premium.
Now, the PS4 Pro is just an upgraded console made to achieve the original price-p...

Playstation 4 sold well almost without exclusives in the beginning. It was just marketing the "power" in the beginning and the marketing missteps MS did.
So, to be fair, it is all about marketing.
Btw, marketing here in Germany is horrible from MS. Don't know why, but they seem to not care if they sell products outside of the US. Since xbox one was revealed, they did almost nothing to tell people they sell a xbox one, ... well at least here in Germany.

3423d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

No, it can't as the OS only allows 1080p and not 4k 24hz (even if the HDMI port could). Also for 4k material the copy-protection (introduced with HDMI 2.0) is missing so there is no 4k streaming.
btw, they never patched in the support for 4k 24hz output. So no, there is absolte no 4k output for ps4 oder xbox one. Only PS4 pro and xbox one s can output a 4k signal.

There is no HDR light. Only SDR. Xbox one has deep color support since launch (or some time after launch). Deep Color support has nothing to do with HDR. It only "corrects" the color banding you can get. But there is no extra contrast-information or something like that.
maybe sony "patched" HDR into the software, but totally forget to mention that the output still doesn't support it. HDR ist only available on HDMI 2.0(a) and it is not possible to update a HDMI...

Like it was in the past, the company that have an advantage in the console market, does not innovate anything, if it costs any money (free download/update servers/space and a potential security-risk). If there is any mod that could crash the system, they might find a way to crack the system. I could think that this is sonys motivation behind this.
But still... that is the problem with a closed system like a console.

Hey if a analyst say this, xbox has a golden future

just kidding. But still, most articles here where an analyst say something totally different.... heck there are many analysts in the world with different opinions.

It might be programmable for some things like supporting new copyright-things. But you can't increase the bitrate via software.
HDMI 2.0 came to late to be supported. Xbox one also has more internal bandwidth to the HDMI port, than the HDMI 1.4(x) port could handle at this time (I guess PS4, too).

3429d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

You still need HDMI 2.0 port to output HDR signals. HDMI 1.4 couldn't do that, and it is more than a software update. But maybe there is some experimental stuff that works with some TVs. Else it is just SDR output.

3429d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

@nitus10
the PS3 could support 3d, because the HDMI standard they used, supported it. HDMI 1.4(x) doesn't support HDR output. Maybe with some TV that support some non standardized signals or something like that.
You can use wide-color support with HDMI 1.4(x), like the xbox one support it since ... I think it was there from the beginning (but might been added sometime after the launch).

3429d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

you can't patch HDMI 1.4(x) to HDMI 2.0. AMD could make their cards HDR ready, because they've got a display port. I only expect some marketing thing here. HDR-rendering but SDR output ... like it is done fore years now.

Yes. But maybe he just meant that he want the better AA and textures, framerate (whatever) for his fullhd tv.
but I don't get it. They make a $400 box for people that bought a $1500+ tv and don't integrate a uhd blu ray player?
If you spend $1500+ for a tv, it doesn't matter if the PS4p costs $50 more... heck this should be a premium device ... now it is a medicore-device

3429d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

the one s was never meant to be really faster than the original xbox one. It is just a bit faster to make use of HDR for games on a 4k screen. That's why they never really highlighted the slightly increased gpu clockrate. They just highlighted the HDR support.
HDR support is really cheap (meassured in gpu-cycles), but the really difference makes the HDMI 2.0a port, so the signal can be outputted to a screen that support it.
It doesn't make sense for sony to promote t...

it has 2.3 times the flops, but noch 2.3 times the memory-bandwidth nor the cpu-power. This "2.3 times" figure Is pointless. In some cases it will help a bit, but not more.
Well... I waited for this ps4 and the uhd-br drive... well... now I wait a bit more.
