According to the box art images I'm seeing it requires a content download before play? Couldn't find any debunking of that. Am I wrong?

I know it's not really the biggest deal in the world (if it required you to always be online, that'd be something else), but it's still a shame to not have the whole thing on the disc ready to play.

Awesome. It'll be good to be taken back to a time where games were actually fun.

Kind of a shame we won't be taken back to a time where you could just put in the disc and play the game (it requires online downloading etc.), but hey, expecting games to be fun again was already a big ask.

SO HERE I AM

Genius marketing strategy.

Yeah I know I was being a little unfair, was overgeneralizing for comedic/cynical effect (the "yo... Halo" thing was ripped straight from videogamedunkey)

My mother actually bought the first Xbox for us back in 2002 because she wanted to play Blinx and Jet Set Radio Future lol

When both Xbox One and PS4 were in pre-order phase a bunch of my friends all said they were getting Xbox Ones only because "everyone else was getting one".

They knew the PS4 was going to be better. But they wanted to get the Halo Machine because everyone else in the friend group was getting it.

Yes, they could have coordinated and all bought a PS4 instead. I told them this. But they just shrugged and stuck to their guns.

This writer still thinks Spider-Man: Miles Morales is just Spider-Man expansion pack. That was confirmed false a long time ago.

But let's face it: they're being hyperbolic (abysmal?), but they're not completely off. I'd say there hasn't been a really inspired launch lineup since the sixth generation. Doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to these consoles, but I'm not personally compelled to buy any of them in 2020.

But who ...

Their viewpoint is "if they don't share your worldview or opinions, don't pay attention". This is what their comment literally says, anyway.

So if we don't agree, why should we pay attention to them? Why do we even look at the comments section of anything? Why partake in any conversation ever? Why come to N4G?

The reasons why their comment is stupid are legion. And if you check their comment history you can see that they're basic...

If paying attention to someone's subjective opinion is stupid, then you voicing your subjective opinion online has to take it to some new level of completely fucking moronic.

Oh yeah, I got that from the article.

But *if* they still had a character in MVC that was a cactus wearing a sombrero called Amingo (which I always assumed was amigo + gringo, but I may be wrong), I'm pretty damn sure Kotaku and other publications of their ilk would be calling for its removal on cultural appropriation grounds. That's what I was saying.

I probably should have been a bit more positive and pointed out that the article was kinda a sw...

If they hadn't got rid of Amingo then Kotaku would instead be writing screeching articles about how Amingo is an example of cultural appropriation and racism.

And I fucking dare any of them to deny it.

The facial animations were definitely incredible for the most part.

But I can't be the only one who thought Ellie's facial animations were sometimes a bit off? I'm thinking of the Everybody's Golf scene in particular: her facial animations definitely got the emotions/acting across powerfully, but they also looked really off/unrealistic/uncanny-valley here and there.

The facial animations reminded me of the deaging technology in The Irish...

P.S. While I think the terms 'history' and 'historical events' are being misunderstood or misused or conflated, I think what @RazzerRedux's most wants to get across is that, in using the phrase "wrong side of history" in the first place, this author betrays an inflated and egotistical sense of the importance of their place and views in the grand scheme of things, especially because, ultimately, it ain't gonna be that big of a deal. I agree.

@RazzerRedux This person responded to my earlier comment, so I think it's me they're accusing of not knowing what the word 'history' means.

tl;dr: People are getting definitions twisted. 'History' is not the same thing as 'big, significant, or historical event', and people are missing both the point of the article and the point of several comments here.

History is not the same thing as a 'big or significant event worthy...

@RazzerRedux

Yes, but publishers offering or not offering free upgrades is 'history' relative to another event, i.e. a console launch. A console launch is a part of gaming history, and *if* some publishers offered these free upgrades, thus attempting to set a precedent, while others did not, then the whole thing would indeed be part of gaming history (especially given that it would be a break from the norm of not offering such free upgrades which has been establishe...

Another article by the sort of hyper-entitled, high-horse, authoritarian-minded coward that is rampant in modern gaming journalism.

These people really think that buying one version of a game entitles them to another version of the game. They actually think this, and are so certain that they dare write a sentence like "No amount of mental gymnastics or false analogies changes that fact, sorry".

It's not just eye-rolling, it's stomach-tur...

History is history. It doesn't need to be a 'historical event'. This is simply a reference to the passage of time and the 'moral sides' of said time.

I get that the writer of the article is an idiot who deserves to get owned online, but whether you consider a console launch to be worthy of a place in the history books is irrelevant to the use of the phrase.

I want to see them score a win, because if they win with this then players win, but Microsoft don't 'deserve' it unless they've put in the requisite work.

If we're talking in terms of this generation as a whole, then no. Microsoft have been coasting. If they 'deserve' anything, it's failure. But I'm not a fan of talking in such terms. I want them to wake the hell up, put in good work, deliver a good product, and *then* get a win.

That this is happening so late in development isn't exactly encouraging, especially with regards to a potential release date.

And maybe it's not as late in development as we're being led to believe. And I honestly feel like these guys barely know what they're doing with this game narrative-wise, worries that this announcement lends credence too.

Still, hopefully it's a positive in the long-term. I really want this to be good. Despite e...

@darthv72

"Nobody knew about this game until it was announced to be on +"

That's a massive misreading of the past year of hype (mostly revolving around the PC version), but otherwise, yeah, the fact that this wasn't just on + but was brand new was definitely significant.
