Next, Oprah herself will be talking about the Switch. I have seen just about every major news network talk about the Switch. People? Um, it's sold out so you think people are NOT talking about it? Seriously.

NPD coming soon. I think Reggie can't wait to say something like.... "At Nintendo, we are pleased to announce that Switch hardware led March 2017 and continues to be sold out at retail. We are excited to replenish our retail partners"...lol
NPD will be released VERY soon for March 2017. I am sure Nintendo will release a glowing statement as they will be #1 easily. So North American numbers will be estimated.
But with 16 million shipped (I would assume around 7 million of that in the USA) they expect it to still be in short supply. But that is a lot of gamers that will own the system this year. That would be selling like the Wii, PS2 or DS if 16 million is short supply...lol
Hopefully stores will be plentiful and fully stocked like normal, but I kinda doubt it. This damn system is hotcakes right now.

This system is region free and it's also simple to buy digital games worldwide if you want.
That makes perfect sense but then again how do they get compensated for the OS? If they get money on each unit Nintendo would sell then it sounds a bit stupid to not at least co-develop an OS for a potential 50-100 million units sold. But that is what regret is all about...lol.
My guess is the end of May. Why? Because Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon both launched at the end of May in 2014 and 2015 respectively to huge success.

Out of the seven home consoles, I think Switch can be placed at number three or four in launch software. NES, SNES, Switch and N64 launched with a bonafide all-time classic game (Super Mario Bros., Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 and The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild). Gamecube had the awesome Luigi's Mansion so I would place that number four or five. NES will remain number one, it was a classic launch line-up with classic nostalgia.
Wow Switch is still number one in hardware! I thought with Monster Hunter on 3DS (which sold a huge 848K in software) and 3DS hardware being cheaper that 3DS might outpace it this week. But nope, Switch still number one. Switch might be number one all year. ;p
The Cape never made it to 3D yet, would be awesome to see.
Congrats to Nintendo. We see where this is going but I wonder when the naysayers will be convinced...lol. Maybe when Monster Hunter is released on Switch? Or Pokémon? Or Mario Odyssey? Maybe they think sales will fall when those games release compared to the fact the sales are great now with "no games" according to them on the system?
