I am 3 chapters in, and it is basicly Gear of War mixed with Painkiller, Duke Nukem and Unreal, all set on a beautiful alien world that was once a thriving settlement but now is all in ruins.

Sure, it's all subjective. And imho western devs have definatly gotten better in the last few years, while most major japanese devs seem to be stuck with design philosophy that is stuck in the 90s. There are a few that stand out, Platimum games is one of them, but many, that I will not name, need to move forward and play a little catch up.
