They were slow at launch, slow to adapt, slow to evolve.

Things were very... basic. If you can remember Sony didnt want to engage the PS3 being a social platform. In japan at the time, people were interested in gaming being more solitary.
The other markets demanded other wise. Sony has come a long long way, built up their Online network to be one of the best.

sony took a few steps back last gen.. Somehow, they came back around this gen. Pretty much just by not being an ass at their unveiling like MS
There is an insanely high number of areas the PS4 could improve. So many missing features that were available last gen.
But with a fair/good start.. its only up from here.

Just think though, if Apple ever tried to re-enter the gaming market what that would do..
I think it would cause pandemonium. Because then you would have all your other big time electronics companies trying to copy/compete with Apple. Most notably, Samsung. But also perhaps google.

I dont think the Ouya or any of the android consoles really contended this generation. (The were just kinda failures).
It seems that the big 3 (Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft) already have the console market on lock (split among them in various proportions).
Now the steambox i wouldnt really say is quite contending for the home console market just yet. Its more of a branch for PC Gamers.

I would think those who use the PS4 as a completely offline device would be even More of a minority, but oh well.
