It's been a slow start but now my Vita's rarely off. Both remote play and a slew of Japanese titles makes it a terrific handheld.

Neither Sony nor MS care about the profit they gain from each console. They care about profits from software sales and subscription sales. Out of the 7 million PS4's sold, half of them have signed up for PS+. I find it interesting you opted out of listing that information.

Profit comes from game sales and PS+ subscriptions. Building a large install user base is important so the platform achieves the higher amount of software sales. It'll pay in the long run by dividents. Remember how Nintendo said the Wii u becomes profitable after one game? Now PS owners are reposinsble for over 20 million game sold in just 4 months and that number is set to explode.
