Yeah that does seem kind of pointless to me, having to beat it on an easier difficulty before unlocking the hardest. In fact, it seems a bit patronizing now that I think about it. It's like saying "You're not ready for this kiddo, play on easy first and then come back and we'll talk" :p
Although I guess developers add that in to try and increase replay value.

From what I know the larrabee is a hybrid between a CPU and GPU, so you wouldn't really call it a GPU, more like a CPGPU?

That may be easy for you to say, but for the developers it's not easy at all. Imagine starting a new engine from scratch, it would cost a lot and take a lot more time. Sure the outcome could be great (keyword:could) but the risk is huge.
That's why for some developers it's easier to get a license for the unreal engine and start from there. It just provides an easier, and less costly base to build from, especially for starting companies.

I've also been interested in this game but I thought it was a multiplatform game? I can't remeber them announcing it as an exclusive to any console, I could be wrong though (most likely, it's 11:00 and I'm tired :p .)
