It's an interesting device but not practical for gaming, and the argument that it's great for voice control is lame. They can do voice control by using a microphone you don't need Kinect for that. Maybe they can use some of the tech for VR controls in the future when MS decides to come out with a new system powerful enough to handle Oculus.
Why Console gaming is better
Stupid article, first of all good luck getting a game optimized to run on a $400 computer. Yeah tech specs may be equal to a current Gen console but again none of the games are optimized for a $400 machine on PC. It will most certainly look and run better on a PS4 vs it's PC spec equivalent.
Cards are released every 6 months and devs haven't even takin of advantage of a card from 2 years ago let alone a card that was just release...
About time! The X1 was so sluggish with its 3 OSs runnig at once.... I wanted to throw the thing out the window las week. I own both PS4s was pretty fast already this is good for competition!
They already stated they are not looking to profit from the headset itself rather the software. Much like the PS4, it's sold at cost, so it's going to be around 300-400 bucks which isn't very expensive considering the technology.
I see just the opposite happening, I own both consoles and have been one of the biggest Xbox fans since the first Halo and the launch of XBL. Microsoft has really been an innovative force over the last 14 years both in bringing great shooters to consoles and creating an online community. It seems as though they lost touch with their base towards then end of 360 and haven't been innovative in any sense. I'm hoping windows 10 fixes X1s sluggish cluster*uck of an OS, it's nowhere ...
The thing that makes this so much different from Kinect is the fact that they have real games running on it not just goofy demos. I remember when kinect was shown and thinking its not practical. Just look at all the games that are running on PC right now with Oculus. YouTube Elite Dangerous Oculus and it will blow your mind it's a timed X1 exclusive and its coming to PS4 at some point which means it will come to PSVR. I have an X1 and the whole build up about how Kinect 2 would do t...
It be cool but in order for movies to work with VR they would had to been recorded in VR which is extremely expensive to do. There will probably be some VR movies but expect big block buster movies to support it anytime soon. There will be a theater mode I'm sure thought to watch movies in a virtual movie theater, that would actually work but your going to lose resolution of the movie since it's not being displayed across the full screen.
This reminds me a lot of Luigi's mansion on the GameCube even the music has a very Nintendo sound to it! Very cool I'm so excited for PSVR Sony is in a class all its own this generation!
No I own both PS4 and X1 and I'm a long time Xbox fanboy to some extent. That being said I really put in time the last few days on my X1 playing Halo 5 and it's been a huge disappointment for me. Not so much the game, Halo 5 is alright nothing spectacular compared to last games in the series but the X1 interface, XBL networking issues and my X1 crashing several times. Literally wanted to tear my hair out even after emptying the cache the whole system feels rather sluggish compa...
I don't really agree with the article as far as pricing being a huge deal as long as it stays under 500 bucks it's going to sell like crazy. Honestly 500 would be the higher extreme end I think it will be 400 or less, but if the experience is big enough PSVR will catch on in a big way even at hefty price tag. Again I really don't think this will be the case, it won't be under 300 bucks but I don't see it being over 400... They are launching in spring so early adopters ca...
You are missing the point it's not about price at all. It's launching in spring for a reason it's new brand new tech people like us on these forums will probably be early adopters it will probably sell maybe a 100 thousand or so first month. That's because we are excited for it general public doesn't know really what good VR is yet. By getting it into our hands we can basically demonstrate how awesome it is to friends, and trust me I've tried VR it's amazing. Ne...
I've been waiting for good VR tech since the early 90s I'm getting this day 1. 25 years is long enough lol
The point of this article is that Sony is launching first half 2016 rather than holidays for number of reasons...
Number 1 being its compeletly brand new tech and product and it needs to build up momentum rather than drop on the holidays and expect monster sales.
Number 2 Being new Tech that VR is TV ads and expos can only do so much, it doesn’t demonstrate the real experience which is a really powerful effect when VR is tried. Early adopters this spring like...
Nothing was ever melted nor was it ever stated to be knucklehead. Intense heat weakens steel, and there was tremendous weight from the building above, not to mention already severe structural damage from a jet hitting it at high speeds... Stupid truthers need to get a life! If they wanted to make a real inside job they would planted bombs as you say and blew up the building and stated Al Qaeda did it without airplanes lol.
Here's the big difference between Sony and the Devolopers of Oculus. Oculus needs to profit on the headset itself because they don't have a dedicated platform and won't make nearly as much money off of software royalties. Sony has a controlled platform, and like their consoles they will sell the headset near cost or maybe even at a lost much like the PS4 itself. They make money on software, games, and applications sales Oculus has to make there money on the sale of the headset ...
@kneon
I agree with you but actually the headset itself shouldn't be super expensive to make, most of the money was dumped into software technology and design of how it fits on your head for comfortability. The headset itself isn't all that expenive to make, the PS4 software has to track the LEDs through cameras which are also really cheap these days. The biggest expense is going to be the OLED display which have also have come way down in price. It's a very n...
I completely disagree and the reason being is that unlike the move/kenect this is really a new experience, and people who have played it stated its pretty amazing for the most part. Move/Kenect were both trying to tap the Wii market which was already maxed out and those types of players had already started move to tablet/cell phone markets and there was nothing new for core gamers to really entice them.
Sony lucked out though the tech they developed for move is great for t...
What are you talking about? pretty much every single game on PS4 outside of a handful run at 1080p. Even the Witcher is 1080p, you must be thinking of X1. Your $2000 computer in 4 years won't even be worth 400 bucks. Tech evolves very quickly and the next gen consoles will be quite a bit more powerful than your $2000 PC today just like the PS4 is much more powerful than PCS 5 years befor its launch.
Sony will lose money on every PS5 sold at launch. Your also not taking...
Of course they are not going to launch completely new headsets for the PS4, because the PS4 hardware isn't going to improve to support higher resolutions. I agree with the guy above who says they will do minor tweaks and improve the headset as far as weight and size but screen specs won't change.
Also PS5 should support 4K or close to a 4K headset, look at the PC right now top line PCs support those resolutions.... PS4 is much more powerful than PCs 4 years ago, to t...
Another thing to point out is Sony added another Processing Unit with the PSVR to boost performance of the PS4 when handling VR. The PSVR also makes better use of its pixels even though technically speaking a lower pixel count. They increased the pixel density in the center of each eye. This alone makes the screen apear higher rez than it truly is because your eyes are naturally focused in the center, they also use optic techniques that are superior to the other VR devices. The OLED also h...
