If Sony wan't to keep their SSD performance high they most likely will. Especially if they have some extra optimizations in place I doubt they'd want people going in and putting their own slower ssd's in. Plus xbox has some thermal management in place on the cards as well as on the inside to keep performance consistent whereas on traditional pc nvme ssd's speed is compromised because of the heat sometimes.
If you watch the DF video you'd realize why we cant upgrade the storage drives ourselves. The ssd's are super optimized and play a role as being virtual ram for the games too. people installing their own slower ssd's will totally throw off that system that they have to get the performance they get.

It would hold back game development. Maybe they want npcs and physics that can only run on the faster CPUs but now they can’t use those npcs or anything because the jag CPUs can’t run it.
