Lets suppose it (Crysis1) runs decent on 360. Now, the 360 didn't change (fixed spec) so that means Crysis1 COULD have run decent on 360 way back in 2007. (which would show that optimisation/coding is as important as raw hw specs ... no surprise really)
I'm not too sure. Check http://www.youtube.com/watc... and see that Bach is behind keyboard+mouse!
Well Agent-86, I might join the PC ranks after 10 years of absence. The only game I regretted not being able to play was ArmA2.
So who knows, BF3 might be THE reasons to finally buy a new (game)pc and pick up in 2012 where I left the FPS PC scene in 2002 (Operation Flashpoint being one of the last FPS on PC i've played)
'and the ultra-promising release on consoles of Battlefield 3 sew it up for me'
Was there console footage of BF3?
Fishy says something about 'optimizing'. I'm all for optimizing but that has a limit. In the end you just need better HARDWARE. Games look (and arguably for FPS play) better on PC, we all know that, but in the case of MW or Crysis2 I don't mind that much. But with BF3 it can happen that the difference is so big you just HAVE TO GO PC.
BF was a pc only game, but with Bad Company 1 & 2 they introduced it (partly) to consoles, so now millions of console gamer...
If you regard the SP/Campaign component of Halo, it is arguably the best. Halo not only managed to be the best (SP/campaign) shooter of that time but did this on a newcomer console platform (Xbox). Halo (as an FPS on console) paved the way for CoD.
It is defendable that if it wasn't for the impact of Halo, the FPS genre on Console probably never would have taken off. We'd still only soccer, race and platform on consoles.
So I see similarities with BF3...
We had a 10 year marriage of FPS - Xbox.
It started with the fab Halo, which showed FPS could work on console with a plus that Halo was also the best shooter around. Period.
The FPS - Xbox reign was sustained bij the immense success of the CoD franchise, most notably Modern Warfare 1.
What happened was that PS3 joined the FPS-on-console club, and some other franchises went console too, I'm talking Bad Company 1 & 2.

Don't tell me they are afraid of MW3???? I thought EA/Dice would go head-on with MW3, which I would applaud, but if this is some sort of 'evasion' tactic ... how weak. PS3 and PC guys might be pleased, I see it as a sign of weakness:)
Since MW1 (when they went head-on with Halo3, a bold and daring move) CoD is 'king of the hill'. And like in that gamemode there is nothing wrong with knocking that king from that hill and taking that spot yourself.
EA/Dice/BF3 goes for that spot. A bold and daring move. I support that move. (can they beat MW3 saleswise? nope I don't think so, but they sure can beat MW3 gameplay wise)
My 0.02 cents

I see BF3 also as some sort of important decision point.
As it stands now, PC will be the better option. BUT(!) ... that could change if next gen consoles PS4/720 are announced.
E.g. if xbox 720 is announced end 2011 to arrive somewhere in 2013 ... gamers could choose to stay with consoles during 2012.
But if nothing is announced and the prospect for new consoles is something for 2015 and later, yes then gamers could revert to FPS in great nu...
softcore = xbox 360 + kinect for 5+ years
hardcore = new xbox 720 to keep up with pc (within 2 years)
note that 360 still can exist next to 720
amongst others:
> hardcore xbox = FPS
and
> 2011 FPS = BF3
and
> BF3 = 64 online pc, 24 online 360 (ps3)
Above says it all ... doest the hard core FPS xbox gamer have to go the pc route finally? I was a dedicated xbox fps gamer since 2002/Halo,...
49 years old. I have to say, older gamers simply because of the experience. Not that they are 'better' but they can mix fun and serious gaming
If you are too serious you won't be gaming for 20+ years
If you only play for fun you will never be competitive
But true, you need to be a real gamer. I'm a real gamer. I'm NOT looking back (as in old times were better) but neither am I looking forward (as in the NEXT game will be IT, like B...
I knew somebody would disagree:)
Lol, some ppl disagree with everything:) In normal situations it is 1 in 10, in fanboy arena's it might max out to 1 in 2
lol at the disagree. Look son, the only REAL comparison fact is that Hey the SUN shines in 360 and it is CLOUDY on the ps3. The only fact is that the shots are NOT IDENTICAL so any comparison is ... well BS really
But if you are desperate? Lol, go ahead.
But true the PS3 shot looks 'better' because it was shot when clouded, and thus more appealing
How can you compare a sun shot (360) with a clouded shot (ps3)? (you can't)
I didn't know that. Thx for the info:)
BF3 will show why new consoles are needed. 24 (consoles) versus 64 (pc) online. For a lot of games the 360 is still valid, but if these Top FPS games are better on PC by a large margin it is time for new consoles.
That or I, and prolly lots of FPS gamers will make the switch to PC, in the future. ATM things are still ok, Crysis 2 on consoles is fine by me, but as said BF3 will setting a new trend (the trend of 'console hw is outdated' esp. for FPS)
CoD players are:
1. CoD players of old (from CoD2 upwards)
2. Other gamers (GR/RS type) migrating to CoD since MW1
CoD became very big with group 2
This group 2 (GhostRecon, RainBowSix type gamers) can migrate back to another game once available. I agree BC2 does this partly but BF3 will certainly see a big shift
The need each other for sure. Because now they can say 'This is the BEST shooter' ... which sound much more fun than 'This is the ONLY shooter' (the latter will make you wonder about 'where are my options???')
