and your comparing a linear corridor shooter to a racing game. im sure if they spent all their time on a single track that plays the same every time you pop the disc in you might be happier.
spending 4 years to make a game seems like a waste of time and money. the hardware running the game will be obsolete by the time you finally release the game in most cases. a two year turnaround seems best.
not to mention you need the game to sell well enough that it covers the cost of having to run that studio for the duration of development and to be able to fund your next project. but i guess as a first party, PD doesn't have to worry about that.
