These numbers are made up and reported as such.
NPD has at best Madden PS3 at 801k no other data exists outside this and that is at the very best for hard data that is known. It may have done at best 400k more outside the top 20 since. This idea of 1.6 million WW is simply a joke. NPD also have COD: WaW at 1.2 million at the end of January. Lets say it may have managed another 100k at best in Feb NPD where in the world would they have done 1.7 million?

Example number 2 as of the end January NPD COD:WAW PS3 did per NPD just over 1.2 million. How in the hell does one expect it to do 1.8 million overseas when COD shooters always, always perform better in the US. Once again made up numbers.

Example number one Madden 2009 PS3. At the very top end of sale through the highest public number anyone could put together since it's release in NPD figures is 801k. Nearly half of the number they have on record. Hence there is zero, zero possiblity that it could do almost double that according to their figures. Even if you were to say it was the the 21st title every single month outside the top of what NPD has provided the very best it could have done is 1.4 million and we all know it wasn'...
Reported. Since this article has no way of supporting these numbers with actual sale through data with the likes of NPD, Chart Track and GFk then they have little evidence support these claims.

Ehhh not true this is only listed this way due to the fact it was unknown before their showing as it is at IGN just like Forza 3 listing was before today.
