Both games are a classic but when Monolith took over and changed the atmosphere to a completely cartoony setting I was heavily disappointed. I still played it but the original is truly untouchable.

Haha, I logged in JUST FOR this story. This game raised me on multi-player I remember playing on a 56k connection when it was still one of the best ways to use the internet and playing AVP1. Probably one of the best and most underrated multiplayer games of ALL TIME and to see it come back to it's Rebellion roots gives me tears of joy. I will be buying this day one, don't care if it's a flop. I musta played AVP over 300-400 hours.
You have to remember the resources available now a days are exactly the same kind of resources that are available to consumers and every day hackers. It's getting harder and harder to find hackers so I wouldn't think the crime rate would go up.
The sales argument is pretty pathetic to be honest. Most fanboys don't even realize other than GeOW and HALO none of the other games sell near the amount that those two have. Bioshock even won GOTY and had only sold 2.2 million or so physical copies.
