It will never sell as many units as the Switch. Common sense will tell you that. It may be successful enough to get a spec bump a couple of years down the line though.

Not at all, really. Pre-orders are fully functional. Literally anyone that wants to reserve one could do so at this very second. This is how Microsoft and Sony should have done it but they didn't want to betray their retail partners. Something Steam doesn't have to worry about.
