Games back then were worse. They hadn't figured out good control schemes and there were often glaring technical issues. Graphics were also often muddy and just poorly designed same with animations. Video games especially 3D ones are a young artform so it's not surprising it took a while for them to get to this level of quality. There are also fsr more games being made and they have much higher budgets at the top of the market now. There are still plenty of 5/10games but they don't...
