Actually the questions would be what games did he platinum and what are the time stamps for the trophies like(ie real or hacked). Yeah if he had 200 platinums, the ps3 owners would be very skeptical.
And 50 platinums, that wouldn't be anything unheard of legitimately, not very common though maybe 35-40 would be more reasonable. Of course, you would have to talk to a actual ps3 owner, not just whine typical sony fanboy.

That is why most console gens followed a 5 yr life cycle, this one is dragging out longer than probably originally planned, due to the economy going sour in 08 and dev costs skyrocketing since last gen.

Problem with a $400 price tag, ms and sony will be releasing their next consoles in a yr or 2. Nintendo will sell to the mario, metriod and zelda crowds no doubt, but nintendo always likes to make a profit day one.
And nintendo's true competition with the wii u for the non nintendo crowd, isn't the ps3 or 360 although sony and ms will try to use their cheaper consoles and very large software library to it's full advantage.
