Me and a bunch of PS Forum members have been patiently waiting for the beta to be available for download since 4AM EST and still - nothing. They said they're changing some stuff up within the environment and once they're done with that, they'll be ready to go.
Do we really need in game music? Do we really need in game XMB? Do we really need Trophies/Achievements? Of course not. It's a luxury, created to enhance the console experience.

this is not a fw issue. it's the sony servers. everything will go back to normal eventually w/o a fw update.
I'm downloading the update now, it's taking quite a while.
Edit: Is anyone from NYC having slow download speeds with the update? It's sort of strange cause my bandwidth is quite fast. I recently formatted my HDD, could that have anything to do with it?

I recommend not eating greasy foods like potato chips or Cheetos before touching your game disc. Call me a clean-freak but I haven't had a single problem with my PS3 and I always wash my hands before touching the game disc, the console or the controller. Even a tiny bit of grease can build-up and attract dust which will probably cause problems with the console.
This blogger is starting to piss me off.
Sony advances in technology really fast, but that's not always the best thing to do. When the PS3 came out they had to sell it for less money than it's worth, and although that's probably not the case here, it won't matter. Only rich people will pay that much for a HDTV. I don't blame them, that thing is downright gorgeous.

Just imagine all of the amazing games that will be coming to the PS3 thanks to Naughty Dog. Developers will have more time to think about gameplay rather than graphics cause the amazing engine is already there!

Before people start commenting "Battlefield, Halo and Killzone 2 are wayyy better first person shooters", I just want to point something out.
Yes, I know the single player feels a bit short, but I personally had a blast playing through it. Although it might be on the short side, it's one heck of an action-packed ride. There's not a single dull moment throughout the whole story.
About the multiplayer, I don't see why people are saying "It's the same old...
