I don't think it would work if the kinect is turned off, but I don't really see a point of turning the kinect off.
I guess if you have to have kinect off or unplugged you could always jury-rig the mic they give you with you head set to have a full working headset. Would probably need some duct tape lol.
You do know that Kinect works as a mic right? The minute they announced that the adapter would take awhile, my first thought was use my headset with kinect as the mic.
Works out pretty well don't have to yell for people to hear you and is much improved over the mic capabilities of the first kinect.

You do realize MS didn't lie, they stated that the X1 is sold out AT Retailers( notice they don't say all ) worldwide. That means if it is sold out at 1 store in multiple countries they haven't lied.
So once Sony fans actually show proof, i.e. every store's stock in the world, then they would be calling out MS's lie.
The number sold compared to Sony, is only relevant to little sh!ts that think it is a competition. By sold out, logic would suggest that they have done the best they possibly could at release.

My thought is that people buy these headsets more for the sound than the mic, but that's just me. Unless of course there is a reason a specific headset doesn't get sound from the X1.

You can't compare indies/downloadable games to the "AAA" games. Not saying one is better than the other, but they are so different that even their reviews can't be compared.
