The Wii appealed to the casual market - people who only picked it up because of the novelty of swinging your arm to play tennis on television. These people are not loyal customers and will gladly buy a PS4 if it provides a new, innovative mechanic to how it interacts with software.
It's a similar story with the DS and they really have been milking that with several new versions released since it's debut in 2005.

Since Activision and Microsoft's Xbox platform are together, EA wanted to be with Sony and Microsoft's PC platform to improve it's competitive stance.
This gives fewer PC and PS3 sales for MW3 and fewer BF3 sales for Xbox. Not too shabby, eh?
I wish everyone got it at the same price at the same time. These deals are hurting no-one but the consumer.
