I too have the 970 but @ 1440p and well happy with the performance.
Laughed a bit at this in the article:

Yeah by 2 FPS XD and costs 50% more than a 970
? What the hell has some bug fixes that are control related (and just 1 FOV tweak)got to do with making the game look better?????
Not sure why you would to own it then as combat is quite a big part of the game, nothing can be done about the art style either.

Tbh the original DC got me into Quake 3, before I went to PC to play it as so hooked on Q3 (4 years solid XD), but I agree the sonic games left a lot to be desired IMO.
Loved my dreamcast, the Wii-U is good but preferred the DC, a great machine that no one bought :(. I think the DC had peaked though that's one of the reasons Sega threw the towel in, so I don't think it would of sold much more. Not that the Wii-U is really taking off now either.
IS anybody really that bothered by it they have to bring it down? Also the use of Finally in the title sort of implies it took longer.

As the title says only thing broken is the street date, the online is not accessible for obvious reasons.
The only thing that worries me is that this is Alpha footage, hope they can keep the visuals for the final release (for all platforms I hasten to add).
