@Raz - They gave Fear 2 an 8? *shudder* Wow, they did. I played the demo for that, realized it belonged on PS2 about six years ago, and left that alone. I usually like their reviews, but that's just not cool.
I like Edge's reviews. I don't care much about the Metascore To Rule Them All - I look at my trusted sites and see what they have to say. Edge has been harsh, so I equate an Edge 9 with something like an IGN 10.8. It's what put me over the edge (hehe) to seek out Demon's Souls, calling 20 different stores before someone actually had the thing in stock.
One great game? I'm repeating myself here, but try out Demon's Souls for a good chunk of time if you ever get the chance. It's all kinds of awesome. It's so complex, tough, and rewarding that it reminds me of my 2nd favorite original Xbox title - Gunvalkyrie.
By the way, anyone else remember that game?
@Tom - I'm pretty sure people are responding to 3, not you.
Careful, man. Comparing Uncharted 2 to Demon's Souls is comparing apples to severed heads. Demon's Souls has a lot of small innovations for the RPG world (and especially the JRPG world), and the developers decided to make the game ridiculously huge on top of that, and they added an awesome and frightening approach to the non-game-mechanic stuff like atmosphere, scope, and sound design. Don't short-change it.
I'm sure Uncharted 2 will be awesome, but it's a different kind of aw...
I'm in one of the most backwoods sections of MA, and I had to call 14 retail stores before I found one. 14. Took me an hour and a half to get the thing, but I'm very impressed. It was worth the effort!
My favorite video blogger doing one of my favorite series. It's a good day... but I'm at work, so I've gotta friggin' wait until I have sound.
What? I understand the point here, but "The age of deterrence?" Did the world end during the Cold War? Change the title and I'm okay with that article.
This looks like great news! I'm a Sony guy myself (because I can't afford to have everything - gotta pick and choose) but any company that acknowledges that their series has to integrate continuity, even with its own spinoff novels, has done something right, no matter what happens down the road.
I'm looking forward to Halo games for the first time in like, ever. Sure, I bet it's also heralding a giant money-vacuum of crap too, but that's what happens. This looks like hardcore...
All I can envision is BBDO Chile staff walking away in shame, heads hanging, tails between legs (well, if they had tails). Yikes. If your ad isn't approved, don't slap the brand stuff on there. The internet will see to it that you pay for that... quickly.
Either way, the new screenshots coming in are really getting me excited about this game. I'm just happy that it's not one of those Japan-only things... and we can always import! There are plenty of fiends for this kind of stuff, and we'll see at least text translations online stateside.
Yeah, I'm psyched about Thexder. Square needs to put down the RPG classics for a second (after US FFVIII) and bring us Einhander. That's all. Just freakin' Einhander. I don't want to create a Japanese PSP account that ignores all of my US games just because Einhander is awesome, but it's looking more like that every day that it's not released. Every day.
Fair use! Wow. Could you please explain further and cite your info? This could be interesting!
How dare they try to recreate a Nintendo franchise! Nintendo does a great job keeping their heritage alive, creating new and innovative games for their old franchises, and making them challenging enough to be loved by their oldest loyal fans. Just look at the epic Kid Icarus trilogy on the Wii! The extensive Virtual Console in the DSiWare store! The myriad innovations in their friend connections and networked play! How about that great WiiHD geared toward core gamers with a great TV setu...
Batman was exactly the kind of innovation that Bethesda was talking about. The controls are so fluid and understandable - no more off-kilter collision detection or pressing an 8-different-button combo to pull off one move (I'm looking at you, old Spider-Man games) - and generating a great atmosphere with half-believable henchmen. You go up to guys and basically do what you want. You Batman them to death with 2 buttons- maybe 3 or 4 if you're a veteran. That's innovation, not something you...
I think that this generation, in just about all technology, is about refinement. Vista is getting a more user-friendly interface with 7. Mac OSX refines the back-end of the excellent Leopard to make the only subtly refined Snow Leopard. Games are leaving what Kotaku has noted already - the "loading screen" days - there are intuitive menus, better difficulty adjustments, a better philosophy. Maybe this doesn't seem like a big deal to thirteen-year-olds, but to real gamers, this h...
@pumpkinpunker: I'm interested. Explain, please.
I understand it's a big difference, but I was expecting more.
I actually like the perspective "Negative Gamer" has on the topic - it's pretty positive! It's not just old-time radio payola, it's the experience of being the first to complete the game and not reading anything else beforehand.
When someone wants to produce a credible scholarly article, a researcher reviews all of the literature on that subject before he/she begins. I wouldn't be surprised if...
This is about Blu-Ray drives and firmware. How about we take the BS "outside" to the Open Zone?
Anyone have anything left to say about hardware?
I have moved from VI to VIII for Best FF title recently. I have the original, but I'll be picking this up for my PSP, and I'll be picking up my PSP solely to play this. Oh and Jumping Flash! 2! I can't believe they released that this week in the States!!!
I just can't get over the assignment of "U2" as its abbreviation. All I can imagine is Bono in a firefight with a chopper, unable to count to four in Spanish.
