I switch between R1 and R2 with my pointer finger... I don't think most people use two fingers one for each button when gaming for the same reason that people don't drive with two feet... too easy to cross them up.

You can ride that bike all day long and not shoot a thing and survive. It's like a non-interactive, interactive cutscene... no matter what you do, you can't die or alter the outcome one iota. I love the game but hated that part.
