Hmm, he didn't quite say that. He said they're "adding elements" to make the game "accessible" to more people. But still. Hmm.
@srcbfmvbmth Pretty sure all Frictional's stuff is DRM-free.
The control system would be a problem. Not quite motion-controlled enough for something like Kinect, but relies too heavily on aspects of motion-control to be played with a pad.
And this time it's a co-production with TheChineseRoom, creators of Dear Esther. An exciting collaboration!
Populous? Syndicate? Dungeon Keeper?
Statix: In the UK, the plural form has been more prevalent for as long as I can remember, so I'm glad written language is finally catching up. Think of it as "[the staff at] Blizzard are..." if it helps.
If you mean "warn Blizzard" instead of "warns Blizzard", then allow me to calm you down a bit - while traditionally the singular form has been considered 'correct', lots of style guides, especially in the UK, now advise discussing groups such as companies as plural.
From the developers: "Everything you see in the trailer is straight from the in-game engine, no up-ressed textures, geometry or effects. What you see is what you will get."
Blizzard have now said it's an error and supposedly fixed the issue.
I see the phrase "no-name" come up quite a lot in relation to Tom Chick, which I find quite funny. He's been reviewing games for absolutely ages (although admittedly he's been a little quieter in recent years), and Quarter to Three has been going for as long as I've been interested in it. Also, his 'other job' is as an actor who's starred in The West Wing and The Office. Criticise him all you like, but "no-name" doesn't quite work! :-)
Gosh, that was an angry reply! It's okay, you can chill, we're all friends here.
I did read the article. Apologies if I misinterpreted it. I'm pretty sure there are other games whose lowest score is an 8 or higher, though. BioShock and Mass Effect 2 sprang to mind, though I just checked and ME2 has one at 75.
"Setting a Metacritic record?"
Well, no. Impressive as 93 is, the record sits at 97, I believe.
"It's an open world game"
No it isn't.
Wow, that's quite a jump, even for a rumour post. The job ad doesn't mention Guerrilla, nor does it mention Killzone at all. It just says that a Dutch studio is looking to recruit for "major IPs" on "next-generation technologies", which is kinda just corporate speak for "a core console game".
@Getowned
"the first chapter is kind of boring when you hop off the train"
Really?! I think that, if any bit still stands leaps and bounds ahead of the competition today, it's that opening chapter. The way it cements this overwhelming sense of oppression, the way it reintroduces old characters, the illusion of exploring a new world and that fantastic chase sequence... they're all better than anything else I can think of in the genre. Apart f...
I can't change it now it's been approved :(
Did you play HL2 when it came out, or more recently? I tried to go through it again a couple of years back and was surprised how much it's dated. But at the time, it blew other FPS games out of the water.
I also think the embargo doesn't lift until 5pm GMT. Naughty.
Oh, hey, hello offensive stereotype.
They're talking about releasing some time this year - probably in a Minecraft-esque model.
