MGS3 came out 3 or 4 months after, Shadow of the Colossus took even longer, FF XII even longer.

The first fight is meant to be over the top. If you watch the rest of the demo it's less crazy, and if you've watched the live stream from Bioware, the game is almost identical to Origins later on.
