If Sony determines that gesture control works well enough and customers want it in products like TV set etc, they would most probably include the technology in their products. That way the customer wins.

They don't even compete for the same market type. Nintendo has traditional handheld gaming all but sewn up.
Apple, with their app store, has the impulse buyer wrapped around their little finger. Most people don't even think twice about buying a 99c or $1.99 game from the Apple store. Add those up, and they make a handsome bundle of money.
Buying a DS or PSP game is a much more deliberate action.
