You make it sound as if the marketing was the problem...why should they market it even more when there are huge waiting lists everywhere already?! It's possible you guys are lucky in the states but the thing is sold out everywhere else since weeks.
I so wish people calling it a gimmick would have at least tried it. If they did they'd know how ridiculous that sounds.
The opposite is the case btw...VR appeals to older people and non-gamers as well and it's especially fun to play with the whole family or friends.
There is a whole world outside the US and in Europe as well as Japan it's sold out everywhere and won't be restocked before after Christmas/early next year. They should relocate some of those available in your area to those who are desperately waiting to get their hands on one.

Sony can't keep up with demand., at least outside the US. Way too early to call doomsday. I'm sure we will hear something official on Friday at PSX.

Not sure why people disagree (actually I know why)..it's the same situation in Germany, Japan and the rest of Europe.
I don't know how it is in the states but over here in Europe as in Japan the thing is sold out everywhere. If anything holds up its sales it's Sony's struggle to keep up with demand.
