It's definitely not better than a console in the long run. When you buy a game for a console, it's guaranteed to work. When you buy a game for PC, there's a plethora of reasons why it might not work.

Not really. The enemies only show as red dots on the map if you have a personal UAV or a UAV. It's a compromise and a good one at that. Stop bitching.
The games you originally listed were all free-to-play games. Minecraft is a success because it's not a repetitive game void of content.
Those games aren't popular because they are "gamey". They are popular because they are free. If Fortnite was a full-priced game, it would be nowhere near as popular as a "normal" full-priced game.

That's not true. You can buy digital codes from brick and mortar stores and online retailers, and you can buy digital PS4 games from Humble Bundle. Console market is still currently more physical than digital so in fact the competition on consoles is more healthy than on PC.

During last gen, Rockstar released GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and GTA V between 2008 and 2013. That's 4 great games in 5 years.
