They will loose to, eventually. All this will do is make pirating gaming so prevelant that even the mighty pusblishers & developers will start going out of buisness one by one!
This article is spot on. How many developers dont make games for pc or release games later on purpose so pepole wont pirate them. If they make this pass piracy will become so rampant almost all developers will go out of buisness.
Also without the used game market developers/publishers will be much less willing to give new games a try so even less new IP's will be released. We already have so precious few now, once piracy & hesitancy to making new games kick in gaming...
your dilusional if you think that for any reason anyone would stop a charge that make them money. They might name it something else to try to stop pepole from being so pissed off about it, but it will still be there. Probably be called "collectors edition" or "ultimate edition" that will include something else that is on the disc that they want you to pay more for. No company would EVER do away with such an easy money grab!
ive read some stories of devlopers pushing for exactly what your saying. An upgradedable hardware set up. Next gen HDD will be so cheap i dont see that being a seperate sku for bigger & smaller drives like this gen, maybe sku seperations will be by power. Make like a xboxlite & xboxpro. I dont see it working but its an idea.
while still early & these are all rumors, if this is true i think i might lean more towards the ps4, im no fanboy i have both systems. But the weak processor & rumor of not being able to play used games is making me think about not going with microsoft next gen. Of course i understand these are all rumors at this point, im excited for some official anouncements.
im waiting on specs, price, release date, & launch tittles before i make my mind up. Ive got both the ps3 & 360 so i got no loyalties come next gen. Im keeping an open mind, come on sony/microsoft wow me!

Mr Tretton people keep making your argument but dont see the big picture. The reason those games become so cheap is BECAUSE of the used game market. Removing the used game market means no comeptition which means games will NEVER go down in price. Killing the used game market will actually make new games go up substatially in price, publishers will claim its because of the cost of making next gen games & raise the price to around $80 for new games, but the kicker is old games will not come...
Seriously? Ocarina of time is widely agreed upon as the best game of all time. The only reason i would even look at a Wii or a Wii U would be zelda!

earlier this week there was an article about "doomsday" scenarios for gaming. This would be one of them. The day games go all digital downloads this can not only seem plausable or enevitable. But as long as games have a physhical media this cannot happen.

While that is true, it is mostly due to the used game market. There were no gamestops 20 years ago. Like it or not the used game market is what is keeping pricing from skyrockiting. Remove used game market & games will start selling insanley high & prices will almost never drop!
the flying dragons was/is high on my list but now that ive plantiumed the game i probably wont be touching it again.
@dericb11 what you say is correct but if you think about it there is an obvious reason why...the used game market forced prices to drop. if you removed used game prices i assure you game prices would go up astronomically & prices would rarely if ever drop. No competition means consumers meaning you & me would be getting royaly screwed!
Microsoft is not stupid enough to put any kind of restriction on used games. If people think piracy is an issue now it would increase 1000 fold!
