I think it's more a case of the saturation of shooter genre. So many games were inspired by Halo and Gears of War and delivered results to a comparable standard that Halo and Gears lost the standout value the franchises once had.

Racing games are a bit different in that bumping graphics and mild gameplay tweaks are sufficient to move units, there just aren't as many racing franchises. Mario Kart has timeless appeal for many people but I have not played a Mario Kart ...

343i ran Halo into the ground and the Gears games were good but the formula got stale and the games didn't change enough to appeal to the masses.

I really liked the exploration in the Uncharted games and the Tomb Raider Survivor trilogy but I was less keen on the action sequences.

I really hope Naughty Dog make an adventure game at some point but I don't see happening as the genre doesn't sell as much as games with more action.

Tomb Raider may have become more relevant in the industry by copying Uncharted but the increased emphasis on action made the later part of Rise of the Tomb Raider a ...

Just a nice quality of life thing and they're always nice when free.

It was interpreted as an anti PS/Sony comment so the fanbois just downvote, it really doesn't matter if the comment has merit or not.

That's because Sony often signs agreements with developers/publishers to co-fund development putting in clauses where the game can't release for a set period of time or at all on competing console platforms. Microsoft weren't going to have that luxury having the smaller playerbase so they're buying studios instead. Both parties are just taking different paths to achieve the same outcome of denying competitors games to differentiate their platform.

The PS5 and XSX can't even play games natively at 4k, hell 1440p 30fps is a struggle for most games.

While the PS5 and XSX do enable higher resolutions lets not kid ourselves when they're not native 4k across the board.

It's impossible, N4G fanbois said so.

They also have to keep the various APIs and other software in mind too. Despite how similar the hardware is in the PS and Xbox consoles there's some things one API does faster then the other or don't have an equivalent in other APIs.

At the end of the day a competent developer like any professional works with what they have and don't spend their time pointlessly complaining about things that are unlikely to change.

You sound like an entitled brat.

The whole industry doesn't revolve around Sony or their rabid fanbois and thank god for that as we saw during the PS2 and PS3 days how bad that was. Sony has been the most anti-competitive player in the console space and it works because it's an advantage to be anti-competitive in capitalist economy if you aren't punished for it. It's also how Microsoft got to the top of the PC hill.

His comment makes little sense when you consider the PS5 and X are very limited when it comes to raytracing performance. Developers choose not to use raytracing because they deem it to expensive and wouldn't add enough to their game to justify the performance hit.

Game engine aren't scalable, that's why every game in the past that released on consoles and PC was somehow destroyed because the game had to run on weaker console or PCs. /end sarcasm

If anything the PS4 will continue to be a factor gimping the PS5 as the cost of the PS5 doesn't fall over time like prior PS consoles and developers continue to develop for the PS4.

The last couple of years have been a mess due to COVID and manufacturing constraints. Developers and publishers have also seen a lot of turnover in staff as COVID has made people reaccess their life choices.

The games industry has become so corporate that greed is ruining the experience of playing games on release as games are put out without sufficient polish which is a clearly sign of corners cut due to time constraints and games are being designed around making money wit...

If the S didn't exist the crutch would be the X is somehow gimping the PS5, it's always been that way with fanbois. They refuse to accept there are other factors at play and developers are very much human and often their work varies between platforms and not all platforms are treated equally or optimised for to the same extent especially the platforms they expect to sell less on.

It is a lot easier to scale games for GPU and memory constraints to an extent vs CPU where you have to have a certain level of performance to synchronise all the other hardware and the game engine.

The lastgen consoles was crippled by weak single core CPU performance, it's really amazing what the platform holders and developers were able to wring out of those systems with PSGL, later Direct X versions and other APIs.

I doubt VR will make much of a difference in Japan where compact living in dense built up areas is the norm. People just don't have the space for VR and the reserved nature of Japanese means they are less likely to be interested in and using VR especially with other people around who they share the same space with.

With an ageing population the potential consumer base is literally dying and shrinking so it will be interesting to see what total lifetime sales end up bein...

People just want to push their agendas particularly fans of a certain competing console.

If someone doesn't think currentgen console games are that impressive graphically having crossgen releases and the fact that consoles are low power APUs across the board is more to blame.

Hardware in some prior console generations was harder to code for so you saw huge leaps but there's no getting around the fact that it's easier then even to release a gam...

I expect it to sell a lot on lastgen consoles even if performance is terrible.

My niece was going to get Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 and was super bummed about the lastgen versions coming out later so I rebuilt an old gaming PC I had and added a GPU to give her so she could play on release.

I'm expecting plenty of drops to sub 20fps and a very unsteady framerate based off what we've seen on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.

Hogwarts Legacy is very CPU intensive and the CPUs in the PS4/XO were weak with poor single thread performance on launch let alone almost a decade later.

If they do manage to release Hogwarts Legacy on lastgen consoles locked to 30fps it will be impressive AF.

The danger is you burn a lot of goodwill if your GaaS game fails especially for players that have invested a lot of time and money into said game if it is monetised, if a game has a rocky launch and players don't have faith in a game it can result in a death spiral.

Just look at Babylon's Fall.
