They already know that if the 360 version performed slightly better the PS3 Fanboys would have a hissy fit. Why have to deal with that, so let's say the PS3 version runs slightly better to avoid it.
Also, they claim that they have had no problems developing the PS3 version as compared to the 360 version, yet they also admitted that the spent more time on the PS3 version tweaking it out to be better optimized for the PS3. (Sounds somewhat like a contradiction to me)
