It'll be nice to see whether this chart dispells some of the myths surrounding the supposed decline in PC gaming; for once, we'll have some sales statistics to compare and conclude upon.
I very much like the way that digital distribution exposes gamers to a much wider range of titles, stories and ideas that, otherwise, they'd never get to experience. One of its major triumphs, I think.
I must say, I agree with this. All too often game movies fall into the trap of too much trying to be what the game is, rather than adapting the source material to film's format. You can't create an interactive experience in film; it's intrinsically not possible. What I want to see are entertaining films clearly set in the same universe and maybe with similar characters as the games, but with a key focus on story, visual style and - the key thing - good, quality acting.
The way these graphics keep being improved further and further is just incredible; it's getting to the point where I can't tell some iCEnhancer-enhanced (pardon the pum) screens from real-life photographs.
The power and tech needed to run it must be terrific, though.
There's some great game ideas in this article; it's given me some idea of what to download ready for my holiday next week. :)
In terms of style, it looks to me rather like Brink. Watching the B-roll footage in that video, though, the shooting mechanic itself seems quite markedly different; yes, there's still the blasting mindlessly at enemies we've seen in Brink, but it seems to be more cover-based, and the angle of the weapon is interesting too.
I bet ;) Naww well, better luck next year. :P
When I first read about Arkham City being at the expo, I squealed a high-pitched, rather unashamedly girly squeal. I'll be in that queue first thing.
Very fair point, Salarian.
I've never understood how games like this can stay at the top for so very long. I've always thought, surely, everyone who is interested will buy it in the first few weeks, and then purchases will plummet?
Apparently not. Though I'm sick of seeing Zumba everywhere right now.
Very much looking forward to the Eurogamer Expo now AC Revolutions, Driver San Fran and Ghost Recon are going to be there. :D
I'm pretty sure Eurogamer Expo is merely going to keep growing, hopefully to the point where it can rival bigger shows. However, it'll never be the "UK's E3", as you hope, as there's a key difference between the two: Eurogamer Expo is a consumer show whereas E3 is an industry one.
Yup, it's exciting news. EA make a very, very good FPS when they put their mind to it, so hopefully this turns out to be something decent.
I do agree with you about Mirror's Edge 2, though. Loved the first.
Ahem... that's Ubisoft. ;)
Come along people, nothing to see here...
I can only hope that this is true. Though a Grand Theft Auto film doesn't really excite me much as a prospect, the idea of L.A. Noire becoming a movie - complete with proper, grimy film noir style - is possibly one of the most exciting ideas in the world.
I've never been hugely convinced by Nintendo since the GameCube - everything after that seemed to be aimed at either the young or the casual gamer, with the hardware mechanics reflecting that, rather than building consoles that suited all types of gamers, and making the games themselves reflect the age range intended.
Particularly, with the Wii, the motion control mechanic was the selling-point, yet the only thing keeping that bandwagon going was the novelty of it. Ninten...
AAGAGAHHAGAGAHAHAGAHAJAAGGH!!! !111!!1111!1!!!
...ahem.
I quite liked Warhawk. I'm slightly excited for this. Can you tell, by any chance?
I'm just hoping that any sequel to Warhawk doesn't move away from the core gameplay mechanics of the original. What made Warhawk so unique and exciting was that it wasn't merely a third person shooter; it had so many different levels to it, and the game mechanic itself (whilst perhaps it felt ...
I loved Warhawk, so so much. A sequel would be excellent, though Warhawk had such a distinctive style of gameplay - I hope a sequel doesn't depart from that too much.
Sounds incredibly interesting. Imagine all the amazing things you could tell your 360 to do. Imagine the custom gestures you could use...
I hope you didn't think what I thought you did.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with this concept in the end; I've kept an eye on it since last year and it's really a very interesting idea.
