@GameTavern Exactly.
If all the comments on N4G looked like this one, I might actually respect this site.
Thanks for your thoughts!
While I agree that numbers and scores don't always contribute positively to a review, I think that the general problem stems from how the public comes to understand these scores. For instance, on a scale of 1-10, 5 would be average, but the way that games are graded now, many people would likely consider a 7 to be average. Perhaps the solution lies with using a smaller scale so as to make for more concrete scores with little to no room for misinterpretation.
I've heard three people now call me out on the term "graphics technology". If your issue is with my operational definition of that concept, then let me clear something up for you.
By using the term "graphics technology" I'm encompassing everything that goes into creating visuals on-screen. That means everything from animation tech, to physics (although these are typically considered subfields of graphics). I use the phrase because it umbrellas a wi...
Sometimes it certainly seems that way. :P
Mainly, I hadn't heard of it before my friend showed me that tech demo awhile ago.
Very well said, couldn't agree more.
I'd agree that you can make something too realistic gameplay-wise, but we're always striving to push the boundaries of photorealism and blur that line as much as possible.
Personally, I want video games to stop trying to emulate real-life, and deliver graphics that are prettier than reality. When you think about it, we can make worlds that are far more impressive than our own (I still love you, Earth!) without worrying about exact replication.
I never said that games shouldn't be difficult, and I certainly don't think that games should be automatic. However, speaking from a control standpoint, making execution a streamlined experience or simple to manipulate is not a bad thing.
There were plenty of people saying that MvC 3 was going to be "ABC xx Super xx X-Factor xx Super GAME OVER" but there is so much more to the game than that. The huge amount of videos on YouTube showing off combos and assist...
I understand your point, but if you truly wanted to play a game seriously, you would find others who understood the game as much or more than you. If you're going to jump into a game of Call of Duty without a party, you can expect to get players that are below your skill level. That's just how it is. If you don't want to be hindered by noobies, then build a team of hardcore players. I'm not a WoW player, myself, but I can't understand why anybody would want to go on a raid...
This is ridiculous, but since I haven't tried it for myself, I can't judge yet. I'm pretty pissed about not being able to chat with friends who aren't playing MW2 or in my game, but maybe it will promote teamwork after all.
However, with the typical nature of COD players, this probably won't be the case.
There's not a very fine line between confidence and unwarranted boasting, but I guess you need it spelled out for you.
Every quote I used in the article was quoted VERBATIM from the X360A interview, with enough context surrounding it to make sure that it appeared unblemished from its original state. This isn't a matter of Turn 10 beating its chest in public, which would've been perfectly reasonable considering the fact that Forza is (SHOCKER!) a quality game that many will enjoy....
I'm not exactly sure that "out of context" is accurate. The quotes are all very within the context of the article. These are things that you just don't say when you're obviously being outpaced by the competition.
We've all heard of Forza's attention to detail when it comes to physics and "impressive" calculations for the hardcore car junkies, but have any of us actually seen, used, or taken advantage of them? I know that I sure as hell haven't.
Yo...
Very well said. The game feels rushed from the demo, and although I understand the desire to usurp GT5 from the throne, Turn 10 fails to understand that on a side-by-side checklist, Polyphony has them beat in nearly every single regard.
Cars? GT5.
Graphics? GT5 (THIS IS NOT DEBATABLE, PEOPLE).
In-car view? GT5.
The list goes on, and on, and on. Forza 3 is not a bad game, but it is suffering at the hands of its creators.
I think most people would be just as mad if Vanilla Ice was hired to do voiceover work instead.
They did. It's called Avatar Awardables. You'll get them in future games.
'Splosion Man is the first to support them I guess.
Were you breathing heavily while typing that or what?
Wow. N4G is slowly becoming a terrible site to look for intelligent or un-fanboyish comments or discussions.
Valve has always disliked the PS3. Since launch, they've found the architecture, the dev kits, and the software to be more complicated than is necessary. They're not alone. Many developers have stated that the PS3 is more difficult to design for than the 360 or Wii, and it's no surprise that most multiplatform games look and perform better on 360 because the PS3's developm...
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. So, you mean to tell me, that this one guy disproves every other journalist's comments on Natal/Milo? I think not. "Smoke and mirrors" implies that Natal is not actually a high tech piece of equipment, which it most certainly is. So if you mean to say that the complex algorithms and impressive infrared sensors are just tools of deception, you're kind of stretching the term.
Artificial intelligence isn't SMART. It isn't flexible, it isn't li...
I have seen the top of the mountain.
Agreed. The challenges could've been much more diverse, but the LEGO-esque mechanics were insanely enjoyable.
