Campaign is done on a modified Unreal Engine 3 by danger close. Multiplayer is done by DICE on their own Frostbite engine. They say they did it that way because DICE are better with multiplayer and Danger Close are better with singleplayer which makes sense... but I still think they did it mainly to get the game finished faster.

yeah, there's still a decent amount of people playing. My cousin and I often hop online after being rather disappointed by MW2. We have even started to see a few new players online as well. That might just be no-lifers playing on a new account, though.
I mean, how on EARTH could Square Enix of all companies afford to make 2 UIs. That's just way too hard and expensive.
I was in I think the 2nd wave of beta testers and believe me, square aren't too fussed about fixing stuff. They're either too stubborn or too lazy because a LOT of the problems in the final game were problems throughout the beta and the forums were constantly alive with complaints and people saying "look, SE: you really NEED to fix this." and yet here we are.
I've see better translation in F2P MMOs... seriously, the amount of spelling errors in FFXIV is ridiculous! That alone sums up it's overall quality to me... they couldn't even be arsed to spell-check.
