I'd recommend Sairento instead. It's way better, more exciting, more polished and isn't a stationary waveshooter :)

Yikes. I remember knowing about this game since 2017. Thought it looked cool. Though I guess I should have saw it coming when we barely much known about the game since early 2018. Also, I recently found out that Winking VR is no longer shown in the trailer. I guess even they lost faith with the game. Sad really.
They were also responsible for Wraith VR (I think). That game makes The Walker look like a masterpiece.
That's probably because the story in Freedom Wars felt rather rushed. Even the ending didn't have that much substance.
And by the way, I did enjoy playing Freedom Wars. However, the story could have been way better. To give the game's some credit, at least they didn't add any "friendship is power" plot device which is something God Eater and Toukiden suffered.
Kinda disappointed but seeing how the game is, it was to be expected.
Oh well. I'm still planning on getting the deluxe edition which has the season pass anyway. I want to see what stuff will the game offer post launch. Also, I have just read DualShocker's review on the game and it was very passive-aggressive. Hope it's gonna be good. The developers by the looks of it are really putting their all into this game. I'm interested but I'll still be toning down my expectations just like I do with almost every anime games that gets announced.
Honestly, since this was announced alongside with Genesis, an upcoming PS4 moba, I'm much more excited for that game than I was with Don't Even Think. Like you said, it's better than Culling 2 but that really isn't saying much. I didn't know they announced this back in chinajoy though. That just makes this game look worse now. I'm still holding my breath for good support of the game but I doubt that will last long.
Sad but expected.
I mean it's not terrible (there were definitely far worse games released this year), but it was definitely disappointing, especially when this is coming from someone who enjoyed the Front Mission games (including FM:Evolved, which was the weakest of the series). And it wasn't just me and other people that were disappointed, but so were Square.

Honestly, these Syphon Filter easter eggs makes me wish for Bend Studios to make another Syphon Filter game. That franchise was very underrated.
In terms of sword play in VR, this is definitely much better than Reborn: A Samurai Awakens'.
