Yes! This could really help Steam get a little more mainstream. Hopefully they talk about Steam OS and some IPs and just leave the Steambox at home.
Hey man, its complicated. Lots of us have grown up with Nintendo. They are a legacy franchise. Mario and Zelda are over 20 years old. Its nostalgia that brings us back. And right now, the Wii U isn't so great, but the 3DS is on fire. So when one console sucks and the other is on fire, its hard to call out the company on its poor decisions.
Im not saying Nintendo can do no wrong, I have some opinions on that, but I can see why some people back them so staunchly.
Step 1-Download Steam
Step 2- Click on game
Step 3- Check system requirements
Or commited Seppuku.
If they could merge a phone into the 3ds I shall never go wanting again.
Cleft,
I hear what you are saying about 3rd party prices. And it makes total sense. But it also brings up another good point, being the lack of 3rd party support. Price cuts are a good start, but games are what we play.
Some people believe Nintendo should go first party only. Others say make friends with 3rd parties. All I know is Nintendo is great at innovation, but they could be clearer on their vision and direction.
Well I have a 106" screen with a $3000 projector. I'm not looking to play a brain teasing game on it. It simply isn't optimized. But when I'm on the road or waiting in line, I'll pop open my 3ds, play some prof Layton and close it up when my brain hurts. I can play a puzzle game for only so long. Whereas I can flop down and play skyrim for 6 hours straight with minimal brain activity. That to me is the difference.
Nintendo needs software cuts. Paying full price for deus ex and rayman on Wii u when it was cheaper on every other console was bad. And deus ex was already out for a couple years on other consoles. The hardware would be hard to sell at a loss or break even, but software can have a better return margin. Especially if they sold games cheaper on eshop than physical copies. Then it would be all profit because of no manufacturing costs.
Give us some games you bastards! I already have netflix.
Puzzle games are alive and well on the 3ds. Professor Layton to brain academy. The games are out there and they are popular. The Xbox simply doesn't have a handheld and the vita has a few puzzlers. Puzzle games just work better on portable devices. They really aren't too optimized for a console experience. Professor Layton is popular, but is there really that much money out there for a console puzzle game?
Wii u is just an odd console. You spend the time looking at the tablet instead of the tv, and the gamepad won't work unless its in the same room as the Wii u. Nintendo should have made the Wii u portable, or made it strictly a console experience. I like my wii u, but I would fall in love with it if I could play deus ex in bed or another room. Either extend the range of the tablet or get rid of it. I hate being tethered to the console.
I see. I always assumed the developers did the grunt work on pc and ported it over to the console. And I also imagined the developers sitting chained to a desk row by row and fed Raman noodles and red bull in a dingy warehouse.
Wouldn't the pc build be easier? I'm no developer, but you would have to think so.
Saying some games are better than others encourages discrimination and leads to hate. Lets learn to love all of our games. Except alien marines of course.
Why would parents get so mad? Apple already swindled them when they bought an iPhone.
Some of the most addictive games ever made came out on handheld consoles. They may not have been graphical powerhouses, but they were incredibly well made nontheless. Graphics invite a player in, but the gameplay keeps them there.
I don't mind the parallels being drawn between resident evil and evil within. If they can go back to the slow horror of RE 1 and 2 it's not such a bad thing.
I'll be Watching this one, Dog.
"Won't somebody please think of the children!" ESRB ratings are there for a reason. So you can censor your kids without effecting developers.
Personally I don't think the Steambox has as much potential as the Steam OS. The Steam OS could be a game-changer if they do it right. But they definitely have some hurdles. This could be a good time for Steam to clarify their vision.
