i have to disagree garrys mod is a nice sandbox toolset for people with lots of time and understanding so is any other modset for a 3d engine game
you may as well say use blender

needlessly adding multiplayer can detract from the main focus of a game
maybe maybe if they farmed there assets out to another studio who specilises in fps/tps multiplayer it would work but they shouldnt split there effort on it
