Why would people buy these from GAME?

Nintendo UK store sell Amiibo for £10.99 inc shipping - and will likely have pre-order up soon for the next Wave.

Shopto and Amazon have Amiibo for between 9.99 and 11.99 (until they go out of stock and third party sellers start the scalping).

GAME are inflating prices both in stores and online by a ridiculous margin. No wonder they almost went bust.

@IntheLab

You make it sound like we're only allowed to own one console.

You know what I'll be doing while I wait for Zelda and post-E3 games...

...Playing The Witcher 3 and Batman on PC (no interest in Mortal Kombat) AND finishing Bloodborne, AND playing MK8 DLC, Splatoon and hopefully Xenoblade on WiiU (while I have just started Xenoblade on New 3DS)

Win win win for me!

I think so many people see this as a black and white issue.

"Nintendo are dumb and missing out on free marketing"

"YouTubers should be able to monetize whatever they like, and Nintendo don't deserve a cut"

Nintendo have always controlled their brand to an insane degree. This is the company that used to put a 'Seal of Approval' on their games. And for a long time that Seal actually meant something! You knew y...

Save? I didn't realise it was endangered!

Their digital events the last couple of years have been fantastic. I hope they keep the same formula.

The loss of Zelda this year is annoying, but I'm looking forward to Star Fox and Xenoblade this year. Splatoon looks fun. Hell, even a 3rd / 4th pack of DLC for Mario Kart 8 would be awesome compared to the rubbish trotted out by some other publishers.

Well said.

There's three things here that could be happening:

1. Nintendo's logistics / stock management is terrible and they have no clue what they are doing when they order Amiibo production

2. Nintendo don't care about rarity or demand and produce however many seem cost effective

3. Nintendo are enjoying the publicity generated by the rare Amiibo madness

I suspect it's a little of all three...

Sure if you want to go back 20years to 1995, then yeah. PC's used smaller PSU's - but at that time there was barely any requirement for high power GPU's etc. The most complex 3D game I saw in 94/95was Flight Unlimited - and my buddy who had a top end PC (Pentium P75 iirc) could barely chug along playing it. 3DFX was only 1 year old in 1995 and their cards cost a fortune. It's not an apples to apples comparison as 'gaming PC' was unheard of 20 years ago, screen reso...

What?

Below are recommended PSU requirements for the last few Nvidia chips... Notice a general trend!?

GTX 580 = 600W
GTX 680 = 550W
GTX 780 = 575W
GTX 980 = 520W

TDP of a couple of Nvidia GPU's
GTX 580 = upto 330W (limited to 240W)
GTX 680 = 195W

Yeah, I believe their new Amazon Fire Stick TV thing already has a few games pre-loaded.

Not really.

We're past the days where every generation of PC component required fatter PSU's and cooling. And modern consoles are basically tweaked PC's.

Look at the latest Maxwell GPU's from Nvidia. More powerful graphics output AND lower power draw. And I believe their 'Pascal' next gen chips are supposed to be 10x the horsepower, and have similar power draw.

Same with CPU's. There's loads of choice with ...

It kinda amuses me that so many people bash Nintendo for underspecced hardware, then go back to playing the latest retro looking game on their uber-gaming rigs!

Yet Mario kart 8 is one of the best looking games I have played in a long time. Sure it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a top end PC game - but the attention to detail is phenomenal.

It's also ridiculous to suggest Nintedno is in decline. Did people forget the beating they took in...

Yeah, agree.

Beanie Babies were a fad because the things had no useful purpose. It was a craze, like the millions of others we have seen over the years.

Amiibo, regardless of rarity have purpose in Nintendo games. So are unlikely to be a fad.

With the launch of the Amiibo NFC cards, Nintendo are mitigating the rarity issue as well.

It's lazy and headline grabbing to compare Amiibo to Beanie babies.

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure they don't have a direct 'old HDD to new HDD' transfer. But you can backup everything to an external USB device then reload it to the new one... But obviously this is a huge pain if you don't have a large enough external drive...

Interesting that they've just gone with a reference design.

I went with an Asus 980 Strix, and that thing is ridiculously good. Fans don't even turn on until it hits 67degrees C. And it overclocks very nicely. I would definitely have bought a white / red edition if they offered it. :)

When it is cost effective for them to do so I'm sure they will increase capacity.

As it stands I'm sure most people would prefer to pay the current price rather than pay more for a larger hard drive model. Especially as the current size is good enough to get most people started, and they can expand in future very easily.

To give them a bit of credit, they have really tried hard to carve out a following.

The Hi-Rez Smite channel on Twich runs almost 24/7 with different shows, and they have a few championships that have attracted some of the big name teams from DotA and LoL.

But yeah, it's small compared to the monsters that are DotA and LoL

4094d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

That's interesting.

I wonder if it's because there's less MOBA's on XB1.

I used to play Smite a bit on PC, but moved to HotS and more recently started playing LoL

An interesting experiment. Good that Sony tried it, shame it didn't succeed.

I did enjoy the E3 stuff they used to do though.

If they did, it'd be a very bold move!

Can't see it happening, but imagine the internet losing their shit if it was true!!
