Anyone who says "This game is MEH" doesn't deserve to be taken sriously
I guess he's one of those people who think if someone is doing something he doesn't like, they aren't enjoying it
Why remove them? people who don't like them can turn them off and ignore them, no hassle for them, people who do like them enjoy them
People still buy games like that just for a quick platinum
Or they could continue to do both
There's sites dedicated to trophy guides and trophies in general
it's not dying at all, if it was i doubt Sony/Microsoft would have bothered to bring them over, or at least every single game wouldn't have them.

I like the way trophies/achievements are, some easy, some hard, some in the middle, and a few for doing random little things.

Can't you turn off notifications? i'm pretty sure you can, at least for trophies anyway.
I liked Jak 2, it will always have a special place for me since it was my first ps2 game i owned, but i really despised the driving in it, f you were in the air you'd hit a vehicle or the walls, on the ground you're likely to run into a soldier in 5 seconds.
I think it depends if you play single player or multiplayer
Wipeout, Sonic unleashed and Brink were probbaly my hardest ones
