I don't even have a PS4 and I pay 50$ a year. Why ? Huge sales ( like steam ) and free games.
It's justified since you always pay less on psn than in stores. I always save 5-25$ per digital game

No, it's an opportunity. The 3DS market is pretty much saturated by Nintendo games.

Wooow. You guys are really too forgiving with Nintendo. The Wii made a bang with the whole "Nintendo Revolution" marketing back in 2005/2006 by introducing motion controls, wii fit and many other stuffs.
That was a real "revolution" and the WiiU was nowhere near that. I, myself, and most people thought it would but the PS4 did it instead.
WiiU better than Wii nope nope nope not a chance and not even close.
I think Assassin's Creed and CoD:D are also million sellers. Vgchartz doesn't count digital sales and a lot of players including me buys digital.
