Player base unity makes sense only if you have a failed console and is trying to promote your brand as a service on multiple devices. If you are not that company, this not make sense.
This "larger player base" will be only for MS. XBL has nothing to add to PSN. Why should Sony help its competitor?

This is not hard to understand. Sony showed the games, Microsoft did not. People buy consoles for its games, not its specifications. History proves this. PS4 and Switch are safe.
