I would love to see Red Dead Redemption get the upgrade treatment. I love that game.

I could see that. If you think about how the video went...coming in out of combat, placing all weapons on the rack, and looking for a place to relax? Yeah, I could see it being the revamp of home.

Yeah, I saw the robot thing. I wonder if it could be cross game chat, since there were some many different game references and its been a feature that everyone has been screaming for. At the end the two soldiers walk into a room filled with who knows what, but can only assume people/characters from all of the different games.

I think that what you'll see from both Microsoft and Sony is going to be more of an evolution of the hardware and not so much revolution.

Basically, the way I see it, both consoles will come out being able to do 1080p but at 60fps or faster with no screen tear and with greater detail. Definitely more main memory than the current systems have now. I would guess 2 to 4Gb of RAM. A CPU update obviously, but hard to tell what those will be, and large capacity harddrives since...

They would not only keep the dedicated server and all of the other stuff, but get creative and add MORE. Why? Simple, Infinity Ward took it all out. LAN Parties still happen a lot, and why not step up and be THE game that is played most at a LAN Party or elsewhere?

I think EA and DICE would gain even more of a following for their Battlefield and Medal of Honor games if they kept all of that stuff intact.

@AAACE5 You mean double like the 360's tripple core or AMD's X3 processors? Just because its "always been done that way" doesn't mean it must continue.

But I see your point. Generally, its doubles, but there isn't a law stating that it must be.

This really wouldn't be all that surprising. I mean take into account the PS3 sales figures, its doing quite well, and then take into account the issues with "The Orange Box" for the PS3 from EA(?)

The problems with "The Orange Box" have really left Valve without much recourse. No one can really step up and fix the issues due to the way it was done.

Say what you will about Gabe, but I get the distinct impression that he takes great pride in his w...

@JsonHenry

The thing here is that the console is a known quantity. The only thing unknown is the harddrive size and that is known to an extent. With the PS3 its a minimum of 20G.

At least they know what CPU, how much memory, what video chipset, what OS they are developing for with consoles.

PC games have to be targeted at the "sweet spot" unless you are making something like Crysis and its ilk and want to push the limits. ;-P

Actually, it will have a more tangible effect than that. Sony currently owns roughly 9% of Square-Enix.

If you think about it, if FFXIII does well on both platforms, Sony and Square wins...if it does better and sells millions more units on the 360...Sony, Square and MS win! The sales numbers would suggest at that point that sales are up and therefore profits are up. If profits are up, its a good thing for Sony and Square.

The bottom line here is that Square-Enix is f...

Well, while I really don't care if its on the 360 or PS3, If you read the article, he never really said, "No we didn't", he just went on to talk about people making assumptions. Which in this case, the assumptions about MS paying SQUEENIX are probably correct.

Well, I respect Cliffy for his work on Gears. I personally REALLY enjoyed the game immensely. That being said, I play Resistance a good bit and continually find myself drawn back to playing that game.

Its difficult to say which game will be bigger this holiday season. Sure, I'd like to say R2, as thats my gut feeling. I think this is because from what I've seen thus far, GeoW2 appears to be more of the same, with some tweaks. R2 seems to try and do more. 60player online, with squ...

While I don't think that MGS4 is coming to the 360, I do think its possible that another MGS game may make it to the 360.

Would I like MGS to stay exclusive to the PS3? Sure, but let's be realistic here. By definition companies are "for profit". There are roughly 19million 360 owners out there and from a business perspective it makes total sense to make a game for the largest market segments.

That being said, I am sure Kojima may not want to mod the MGS4 en...

Very sad indeed. I really loved playing this game in BETA. There was a lot of great gaming in store for us.

"Dungeon Runners" is pretty similar, but my personal feeling is that Mythos just did everything better than Dungeon Runners. I will probably give DR another shot. My guess is that a ton of stuff has improved than the last time I played.

Thank you Flagship and thank you to the Mythos team. Best wishes to you all in your upcoming endeavors.

Oh, this is soooooo pre-ordered

Usually I would agree, but keep in mind thats why dev teams use/create an engine. Its a common piece to all platforms involved. Art, sound and other assets are reusable.

So, if you use the same engine for the platforms involved with minimal changes for each platform, then your costs aren't as great.

You don't need to create an engine for the PS3 and the 360. Its a concept thats been around for a really long time and while not perfect, works well.

Sheesh! What a bomb to drop!

While I will admit that I am a bit disappointed, and a little shocked. I will also admit that from a business standpoint this makes total sense.

The costs of software development have simply skyrocketed. As everyone knows that in order to recoup those costs you need to sell a ton of games. Squenix knows this, they also know that in the US the 360 has a larger install base than the PS3. To be fair, they want to cater to US gamers, and r...

Graphically, I think KZ2 simply looks amazing, the gameplay footage looks very promising. I don't think the game will fail due to graphics or sound.

The potential issues I see happening (and I hope they don't) are uninspired level design, lack luster story and missing some polish.

I am really hoping that KZ2 is all that and a bag of chips. GG is really going all out on this title and I think from what I've seen thus far, that it really shows.

I know that...

I only use a Windows box to play Age of Conan and World of Warcraft. If I need to get any real work done, done quickly, and securely I use Linux and FreeBSD.

Linux on my Thinkpad T61 and FreeBSD on my personal servers. At work we use Ubuntu Server 8.04 LTS, Jboss AS, Java, and PHP for our apps.

Doing development work on a *nix system is oh so much nicer than under Windows.

1. Controller feel is very subjective. Missing rumble, was a royal Sony blunder
2. Seeing minute details at 30 - 60 fps can be very difficult unless you pause the action. Is this really worth it? Sure if you want to pick an image apart...and honestly, sometimes that *IS* called for. I think in most cases though its not called for on any console. ( http://www.newton.dep.anl.g...

I think that the unified memory model is a double-edged sword. Sure you can access a bit more memory and use it as main memory which can be a great boon, but at the same time you are taking away memory from the GPU and that could lead to rendering issues such as screen tearing and texture pop.

This also doesn't mean that discrete memory is definitely better either as you can have video memory go unused while your main system RAM is slam packed. Its really just a trade off and a b...
