With proper topology, you can animate any model. That being said models like this would need to be HEAVILY reworked to be properly rigged.
It's not as impressive you some may think. These are 3D scans we are talking about. Of course they look photo-realistic. The models nor the textures were created by hand by artists. It is an exact virtual replication of the person who was scanned. But models and textures of this high of resolution is still a long way off from being able to be practical in games.
Really the most impressive part of this demo is the work the done on the skin shaders. Excellent use of...
Hey bro, you need more fiber in your diet. Like, for real.
Major Nelson says on Reddit that they got FCC approval early this summer.

I do find it interesting that there is not a single article anywhere supporting that claim. It seems like every highly anticipated consumer electronics product gets their approval splashed up on sites like Engadget. If anyo...
I love the idea of using a tablet or phone to change loadouts at anytime. Hopefully they will support more than just iOS devices this time.
This is awesome news! Soul Caliber 2 was hands down the best in the series and one of the best fighting games of all time. I just wish it had Spawn from the XBox version and Link from the Gamecube version as well.
It all comes down to the fact that its cheaper in the long run. EA invested, say 10 million dollars (that's a total guess) for DICE to create a proprietary engine for all of EA's studios to use. It's much cheaper than paying Epic a couple million dollars per title to license Unreal. For an independent developer (as in not owned by a publisher, not an indie) on the other hand, typically don't have the time and money to invest in such projects, so something like Unreal or Cry...
After seeing just how stripped down this alpha is I'm not too disappointed anymore that I didn't get an invite. Figured I'd get one since I got invites to both BF3 and Crysis 3 alphas.
The Alpha already started? Where's my invite? EA is sooooo getting next year's most evil company in the world award for this mistake!!!! ;)
I was confused about this at first too but sure enough I got a launch edition! I'm glad I preordered it immediately after the presser. Getting it launch day and don't have to wait in line for a week to do so.
I'm gonna say no. Sony and Microsoft are making too much money off selling classic games online as well as the HD remakes that have been coming around. Just resize the textures and sell it as a new game. Brilliant! But seriously, Sony learned the hard way that ensuring 100% backwards compatibility is more work/effort/money than it's worth. The first big price break for the PS3 came after they switched to software emulation and that was only partially successful. Whereas Microsof...
It just goes to show you how much Gearbox cares for their fans. When they were talking about this at Community Day, Randy Pitchford actually started choking up and almost started crying in the middle of the panel. Hands down, these guys have the biggest hearts of anyone I've seen in the industry.
These companies work together more than most would think. Sometimes decisions have to be made for the benefit of the industry as a whole. The games divisions have become extremely important to both companies and they may have to make some hard decisions together to support their interests in this constantly shifting industry.
I've talked to people in the industry that told me MS and Sony have an agreement that neither company would release their next-gen console before ...
Actually, Full Sail is kind of a joke. I've known several people who have gone there and came out having a lot of trouble finding jobs because they just were not taught what employers looking for from a graphic designer. The best game school in the U.S. that isn't part of university would probably be DigiPen.
If this guy is for real, then he just committed career suicide. Something, that stuck me as off was how he spelled some words in a UK english spelling. Like ...
Ah Sweden. Where even the environments in their games look like everything came from Ikea.
Epic has had a great business strategy for a long time. Give everyone the engine tools for free (previously with UT Editor and now with UDK)and you see a new generation of developers and designers that already know the ins and outs of the engine because its what they learned how to build games with. Almost all schools with game dev programs teach they're students on Unreal Engine 3.
To everyone bitching about studios using UE3, as a studio, why spend a lot of time and money tea...
They announced this a while back at Community Day. I was wondering when they were actually going to do it. If it's anything like they talked about then, it's gonna be pretty fun to play around with.
The problem is that people are seeing it in a very very unfinished and unpolished state. Some people might think this is representative of what the final product will be like and decide not to buy it. As well as it gives competing developers (e.g. Infinity Ward) a look at what they are doing, with more than enough time to implement some of those ideas in their own game. There are reasons developers keep a lot of details close to their chest until right before the game releases.
The community inside of the Alpha is watching for these videos. There are threads full of Alpha testers postings links to videos with user names of who posted them. These people could be in a lot of trouble as DICE and EA have every legal right to sue them. DICE did something really cool for their fans and these idiots are going to ruin it.
Can't speak for nDO or dDo, but I just started learning Mari and the texture detail you can achieve in it is incredible. I've heard they are great programs for adding specular effects and what not to maps though.
