My favorite part was the "Princess in Distress" quest. Wandering around a forest, ringing a bell and calling "come here princess" was a nice comic relief from the otherwise serious tone of the game.
Jokes on them. Valve doesn't make games anymore. /sarcasm
You called it a review. So you are reviewing a beta. All I needed to hear. Not clicking your link.
People only buy Nintendo consoles to play Nintendo games. That's just the reality of it.
The tech involved in making video games hasn't changed much at all in the past 10 years. Processing power has increased greatly allowing for better visuals, higher res textures, smarter AI, etc. but the process it pretty much the same as it was at the beginning of the PS3/XBox 360 generation. Most notable change I can think of this generation is the widespread adoption of physcially based shaders but things like that are nowhere near the leap forward as when devs first started working w...

From a game design standpoint, I thought it was amazing. I've never played a game that gave the players such a sense of tension and terror. I was genuinely stressed out playing it. Often spent 20 minutes hiding in a locker just hoping that the alien wouldn't find me and loved every moment of it. This game shows a video game can be scary without cheap jump scares.
I'd love to see another Duke game done right. People need to remember that Duke Nukem Forever was almost done when it was put in Gearbox's hands and they basically had to quickly finish and release a game that was already many years old at that point. That's why it was so subpar for its day. If it had released as a PS2 game, no one would have thought it was that bad.
So now we will only have to wait another six months for them to port it to android, or maybe, like in the case of Final Fantasy Tactics, a few years.
As someone who skipped Windows 8 and 8.1, Windows 10 has a significant performance increase from Windows 7. I got about a 10-15 fps boost in The Witcher 3.
I love how Naughty Dog makes videos like this and has Facebook posts inviting people to come work for them as if they can't find anyone. Even inside the industry, Naughty Dog is known for only considering the best of the best devs.
As an aspiring 3D game artist myself, the best thing anyone ever told me about becoming a game developer is that you have to be as in love with the process of making games as you are with playing games. I've known many people who have set out on a path to become a developer, only to realize it just really wasn't for them after all.
I personally don't really see Hololens as a useful piece of tech for gaming. Just like Kinect, its perfect for a few niche styles of games, but doesn't do much for gaming as a whole. I can't see this being used for anything other than Minecraft and maybe an RTS. Where VR is about becoming a part of the game world, Hololens seems to be about bringing the game world to your table, literally. From a content creation standpoint though, I think its brilliant.
No one here seems to have a clue of what "Render Target" means. It has nothing to do with intended performance of a game. IT IS A TECHNICAL TERM. A Render Target is a memory buffer (in RAM) that draws a single frame. This can, and usually is, combined with other render targets of different channels (i.e. diffuse lighting, depth data, normal data, specular data, shadows, etc. etc.) and composited into the final rendered frame that is displayed. So yes, RAM (especially Video RAM)...
I think the point here is that this game looks great no matter what platform you choose. Of course PC will have the edge while PS4 and XBoxOne will are on par with each other minus a few slight differences. I'm just blown away by how close the console versions compare to PC. People really need to put away the magnifying glasses...
Mantle is proprietary too. Both AMD and Nvidia do the same crap. Its all about trying to get consumers to buy a card with their chips in it over their competitor. Nvidia just comes out with more tools for developers and the developers use them because it makes it easier to incorporate some cools features, such as real-time Global Illumination among other things. Can't really blame the developers for using tools that are at their disposal.
Personally, I'd rather have modern versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. They were from a time before you could really tell a compelling story with games. That's about the only Metal Gear project I can imagine Konami doing without Kojima that wouldn't make me cringe.
Executing unsigned code on the PS4 would open the floodgates to modding, pirating games, etc. Don't you think the hacker that achieved this would have told the world by now to boost his hacker cred? As it stands right now, nothing but official Sony approved code can run a consumer PS4 unit.
I want to know what happened to MS saying it would be possible to turn any Xbone into a devkit.
I noticed that too. Models and textures seem to be pretty uninspired. Almost looks like the artist is following the original TOO closely. He really shouldn't be so afraid to deviate for the sake of making it look more interesting. Make the objects look more complex and realistic instead of just recreating the same assets and throwing them in UE4.
