To all above who don't understand the 2.1 million in 48 hours it was in fact just that.
On the US/Canada launch they sold a million units in 24 hours. They sold all of those units so no sales until the next launch. You can't those days if there were no product on shelves to sell.
Next up came most of the rest of the world and another 1.1 million units sold on the that launch day.

I think people haven't really figured out that they can do this because I'm doing the same with my PS4's.
All digital for me.
Really I've never paid more for digital than I have for new retail...I've been buying games online for awhile now and I just went full digital since the PS4.
Not once have I paid more in fact I save $5 with every digital purchase...tax is much lower in the US for digital titles.

other reasons listed above me but I went all digital for the PS4 and I love it. See I have two PS4's one in my living room for the kids and one in my room for myself. My main system is the one in the living room and I log in on mine. What this allows me to do is buy a game on my primary system and let my kids have access to it without having to buy multiple copies of a game. This has allowed me to play online with my kids while in different rooms...aka no ne...

That's total bs most of the deals are free games or $5 to $15 off. I've been a plus member since day one of the service and the deals are great. Hell Tomb Raider was on sale for 50% off.

I've used Spotify and so did my GF for sometime and it made a lot more sense to go with Music Unlimited. The space on your phone or tablet is pretty much non-existent. Every song that I've wanted on my playlists is there and I'm well into the hundreds.
As far as using it on the PS4 and this is just the experience my family is having with our PS4's is amazing. No crashing or sluggish behavior but then again I have the top internet ...

I never used it with my PS3 but now I love the damn thing since I use it on my PS4, computer and my Note 3. You can stream your songs or you can download them and take them on the go without having to worry about eating up your data plan.
Going to the gym is so much better now!

I know you can't comment back but having stock since launch just sitting on shelves and even after black friday still having consoles sit on shelves is even worse.
If your demand is so low that you over forcast sales expectations means you can't push your product and investors see that.
On the other hand if investors see that no matter how much you make of a product you can't keep up with demand then they will invest more. A million units a month ...
Exactly if I wasn't able to pick up my PS4's at launch I would've waited versus getting an XBI.
I don't know anyone who is willing to spend $500 on a runner up what they really wanted. Those I know who missed the chance to pick one up are waiting until more hit our local stores or online shops.

I see what you're saying but I think the saying you get what you pay for really does apply. I bet if the DLC cost $10 the quality of content should reflect. At $3 the quality will reflect this...keep in mind you have games releasing individual DLC weapons and skins for $1 a pop so $3 for an hour or more of game content for a couple of bucks isn't that big of an impact.

You do realize that Sony matched MS with price drops for the PS3 even when it was more expensive to produce...and guess what globally it outsold the 360 for several years straight.
Since these components are modified off the shelf parts Sony will be able to match MS with every price drop. If Think about it $450 for a XB1 or $350 for a PS4. As the price lowers for both it will only really help PS4 to increase the gap especially in international markets.
