It makes sense for Sony to release a bare bones model of the PS3 now at this late stage in it's life cycle. This will give it one last final sales boost this holiday while also preparing for it to start launching in developing countries.
If no new console is announced at E3 next year then I will eat crow but at this point I think it's incredibly naive to think the PS3's successor won't come out til 2014.
The majority of the big titles still coming to PS3 are slated for first half of 2013. Once the PS4 is announced at E3 next June, new content for the PS3 will likely start drying up.
Same with the 360. Why else would their next Gears of War game come out in March instead of it's usual fall release window?

I'm not a fan of zombies but it doesn't sound like that'll be part of it although they mention a "survival" mode.

One month is not enough time to add a whole new character. This delay is likely because the developer won't be done by the original 10/23 release date, not because they all of a sudden decided to add more content to it.

why announce ps4 now and kill ps3 sales when they still have exclusives like last of us, gow: ascension, beyond two souls, etc still coming out? ps4 will not be revealed before E3 next year.
COD2 was a launch title for the 360 and was arguably the best looking game at that time. One would hope that ATVI will re-invest into the series and have them build a new engine for next gen. We shall see..
Yeah, this should be good. They'll probably task Sledgehammer with making the current gen versions while IW will make the next gen version. Launch title for XB3/PS4!
The fact that so many big titles are slated for release in the first half of 2013 is a major hint that the new consoles are coming in the Fall. Publishers are likely scrambling to get their games out before they drown in all the hype of next gen. This would be the first time this gen that a Gears of War or a Naughty Dog title came out in Q1. BF and MoH are separate franchises but the latest iterations of MoH have been very similar to the BF franchise. MoH 2010's MP was made by DICE and was basically a dumbed down BF game. Warfighter isn't made by DICE but it's running on Frostbite 2 and from what we've seen so far, once again looks very similar to BF.
I'll agree that the MW/BO games have more in common with each other than BF/MoH but it is obvious that EA is trying to mimic Activision'...
Alternating between BF/MoH is more or less the same as activision alternating between MW/BO. Considering all the flack Activision gets for milking their shooters, EA is guilty of the same thing.

not sure why ppl are agreeing with you because this has NOT been confirmed. Sony hasn't even acknowledged there is a PS4 let alone talking about their devs working on games for it. Whether it's true or not is another thing, but it is far from confirmed that they are working on a PS4 title.

The 360 has a massive lead over PS3 in US/Canada and the UK. Sony leads in basically every other market in the world but it's still not enough to offset the deficit. In the end, the overall numbers will be very close since I anticipate the PS4 to come out after the next Xbox.
It's good that they finally have a signature Move-only title but this game should've been a launch title for the peripheral.
