The Ps4 Pro is a Half measure primarily meant to boost VR. Seems redundant in my opinion but I'm sure it will sell well out of the gate as most hardware does. I disagree that its the most pointless console ever tho. Atari Jaguar, Neo Geo, Apple Pippin are a few that spring to mind. I'm sure there is more as well. Ps4 Pro is pointless unless you are planning on investing in PSVR

For starters. The HDR u will be getting on the Vanilla Ps4 isn't true HDR because full HDR requires HDMI 2.0 minimum and both the Vanilla PS4 and XB1 have HDMI 1.4 standard. XB1s is HDMI 2.0 so full HDR capable. But if u r happy with a watered Down bastardized version of HDR then power to u.
